Geez, maybe the majority of people in the United States DON'T agree with abortion? The hypocracy here is amazing. Could you imagine what you guys would be saying if contractors refused to build an anti-abortion groups building? You guys would ALL be praising them for being great Americans, standing up for what they believe in, etc..

CNN kills me, they use terms like "abortion foe" and "anti-abortion" group instead of pro-life. For you anti-fox people i dont recall them using "Pro-murderers" to describe pro-choicers. GOSH!!

When has that EVER happened? Or anything even remotely like it?

He is saying put the shoe on the other foot. Sorry you are so obtuse to not understand that.

Oh please, I got it. My point was that these anti-abortionist groups are (as usual) sticking their noses into everyone else's business and using extortion to try and force their "morality" on everyone else. I don't see pro-choice groups using the same tactics.

Seems to me like private citizens and private businesses are doing this. Doesn't seem like any government is forcing anything upon anyone. That is perfectly legal and should be their right to do. You are only for a boycott if it suits you. That's the problem with hypocrites.

When have I ever expressed support for a boycott around here? When did I claim the government was forcing anyone to do anything in this case or claim it wasn't legal? I think you're flailing away on your straw man. Having fun?

So you don't support the Union walkout/lockouts at your grocery stores? Just curious.

I have mixed feelings on the matter. I've broken the picket lines a couple of times now for minor necessities. On the other hand, I've gone out of my way do my major shopping @ Stater Bros and other non-union supermarkets. Recently, Ralphs Supermarkets was given reprieve by the strikers - not clear why that is, but I've been shopping there. In a lot of ways, I really feel the dispute is between supermarket workers and their employers not between workers and the consumers. On the other hand, I have a friend that works at Albertson's and she's on strike right now, so...
I don't know if you can necessarily equate the CA supermarket strike with the TX anti-abortion movement - if that's what you're thinking....

So Unions pulling their workers off the job isn't a boycott? or atleast a demonstration of their "power"? Sure they are different subjects but isn't the intended result the same - to force their issue by using those who are "dependant" on them?

I don't know Cad, it seems like you're trying to compare workers fighting for their benefits and wages against their cheap-labor employers with anti-abortionists essentially extorting a whole sector of the TX economy into following their religious/moral mandates. I think they're apples and oranges. Besides, I personally am not striking nor am I involved in the boycott. I'm simply a average guy trying to buy my weekly groceries. Feel free to stretch one and equate it to the other I guess. You and Millennium seem bent on discrediting me personally to somehow discredit the issue.
The organization said it would act as its own general contractor and complete the project. Tierney said it is too soon to say whether the setback will increase costs or delay the clinic's opening.

No - it has nothing to do with you personally. But don't Unions use extortion by staging walkouts/lockouts? It is the same principle - this isn't abou the topic - it's about the action. Obviously the issues are different but the tactics are quite similar. I don't support these people who are using their power/influence - stating they will no longer give contracts to anyone who helps build that Clinic, and I also don't support a Union that uses it's power/influence to force a business to cave to their demands. It is quite similar once you strip the cause issue away - that's all I'm stating. Organizations ,wether Unions or Business Organizations, use the same bully tactics you stated.

I see unions collectively bargaining with their employers. I know you don't like unions Cad, but that's the bottom line. They want to get paid a fair wage with fair benefits. I don't see anything like that going down in TX. I see religious extremists extorting private companies to do their will. Like I said before, I guess if these private firms go along with it, there's nothing inherently illegal happening. It seems to me, however that what this organization is doing smacks of extortion. I recall NOW used the RICO act to go after anti-abortionists who were using similar tactics before...
Yeah, the project is indeed still underway. However, the AA Statesman reported last Tuesday that there was a temporary halt because the contractor from San Antonio withdrew.Originally posted by: MrPickins

AFAIK this project is still underway. The local news here in Austin have been reporting on this for awhile, but nowhere have I heard that the idea has been scrapped.

Even if Unions are evil like you apparently believe them to be, that doesn't make the boycott ethically sound. Two wrongs, that whole spiel, you know?
