Steam has finally posted a release date for Brink - May 9th, 2011. For a long time Steam only had a release date of May 2011, with no exact date indicated.

Watching the preview videos, Brink looks like a mix of call of duty / black ops and something like Borderlands.

My son wants Brink. I have been telling him that when a firm release date is posted, then I will buy the game for him. I might even get a copy for myself.

What gets me, unlike a lot of games on Steam, there is no discount for pre-purchase.

what are you talking about? its only $49.99, seems like it at least has the standard PC discount

meanwhile Crysis 2 was $59.99 and COD : Blops is still $59.99

It's a Steamworks title so where ever you buy it you can activate it on Steam. D2D has it for preorder for $44.95 as part of there preorder specials promo. I believe there is also a 10 or 15% off coupon floating around for D2D you can use too but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I can not help it if Crysis 2 and black ops are over priced. Wal-mart had black ops on sale right before christmas, that is where I bought it for my son.

The going rate for a new pc game should be $49, not $59. Portal 2 opened at $49, with the discount it was something like $43.

Amazon usually has good deals as well if they offer it. Usually around $5 off and maybe $10-20 in credit for future purchases.

Any word on if there will be a demo available? The game looks great but I'd prefer to test it out before buying it.

the going trend for VALVE games is 10% off preorder, so Portal 2 was $45, although if you preordered a two-pack and split the cost with a co-op buddy (adds another 10% off from the pre-adjusted total to make for 20% off, for instance Portal 2 two-pack right now is 10% off or $90) it would come to $40 per copy. Of course there were also some $35 preorder sales from the likes of BestBuy and Amazon for a physical copy of the game, but that's not Steam so irrelevant.

at any rate its usually VALVE games that give a preorder discount

Preordered Portal from amazon, activated on steam. Not irrelevant at all. I'm sure Brink can be activated as well, at least I hope so.

It is a steamworks game.. so yes.

Brink preview for anyone who is interested:

Brink, the frantic first-person shooter being brought to us by Splash Damage, has so much going on that at first I struggled to stay alive. During my hour-long playthrough I had a game developer over my shoulder helping me along the way and, by the end, I almost couldn't leave. For anyone who has played Team Fortress 2, Brink will feel very familiar.

$37.46 today on D2D using 25% off code 'bunny'. I hope it's more like the ET games than TF2.

Than you for the code.

I pre-purcahed Brink on direct2drive, but I can not find the code to activate the game on steam.

I think im going to do it too.

I like both ET and TF2. I hope it isn't too dumbed down or anything though.

I'm pretty sure activation codes will be revealed on release or a few hours before it.

Yea, I think so.

From what I have read on other sites, when the download button goes live, click the download button and CD key will be on the download page.

But since the game is in "preorder" status, I do not have access to the CD key yet.

I was hoping to get the CD before release day, activate the produce on steam, and get the game preloaded. Steam will usually do a pre-load 3 days before the game goes live. I do not know if D2D does any pre-loading stuff.

Why do game publishers always release games on a Monday or Tuesday, and not Friday, for the weekend?

It's a shame it looks so ugly. Not bad, mind you, just ugly, in the truest sense of the word.

Borderlands, despite having a similar "post-apocalyptic / cyberpunk" style to it, had more appealing character design. CoD/BF games (and most FPS games for that matter) have appealing design to their characters as well, so you actually want to "be" the person you are playing, or desire to have them as your in-game avatar and grow attached to their look and customizing them.

This looks more like they dredged up a bunch of homeless people and washed out punk rockers, popped a few cans of paint, lined up some amateur tattoo artists, and a random assortment of narcotics, and threw the whole lot into a room-sized washer/dryer and set it to a spin cycle. Only they forgot to add any water or detergent.

Who actually wants a scumbag to be their in-game avatar? For most that is undesirable / unappealing. You could put a million polygons into the character models and they'd still be repulsive because you modeled douchebag rejects.

I hope we're nearing the bottom of this devolution in game atmosphere and character design rises up from here.

Perhaps the gameplay is amazing, but will it be enough to overcome unappealing visuals? I'm not sure it will for me.
