Flights start at 265 to London, seems like a really good deal. Looking to go to London end of December, 360 round trip from New York final price seems like an excellent deal.

In December, rates are usually pretty low across the board. After September, European flights drop for off-season. I paid $325 out of ATL last time I flew, so $360 isn't out of line. Shouldn't be a problem.

Singapore Air stranded me in Amsterdam for 2 days and on the same trip in Singapore for 12 hours ! That's the worst trip I had in 20 years of flying .
When I filed a BBB complaint about that trip they didn't even bother replying .
Only thing they have is cheap tickets .

Honestly though, I looked at the Amsterdam tourism info and it seemed rather dull...some gardens and some other junk...

Which made me think that the only real reason anybody goes there on vacation is the loose drug laws and red light district...not that there's anything wrong with a $188 ticket to things that are illegal in most of the US. lol

Depending on what city you're flying from..... Check out Iceland Air. They fly pretty good rates and have a decent fleet of Boeing Jets. One of my friends always flew them because they would have that layover in Iceland and break up the trip to make it more interesting. I think the country's tourism likes having travelers stop in and lower airfare is a result of this.

That Cathay Pacific deal is huge - I was considering this when I went to the World Cup last year. The only problem (besides the whole SARS thing) is that each time you want to fly somewhere, you have to connect through Hong Kong. And all the flight legs have to be booked in advance, so you can't just fly to Fukuoka on a whim. But it's usually $1199 in the summer, so $699 is AMAZING! Now I'm just trying to figure out if I can get the time off to do some globetrotting...

I suppose the museum of the house that Anne Frank hid in, the Rijks and Van Gogh museums, Van Gogh's house, the Jewish / Holocaust Remembrance museum, the Artis zoo (claims to have the widest selection of animals across Europe), or even the Heineken Brewery wouldn't really interest anyone.... You're probably right... These things pale in comparison with huge, skanky hookers, pot bars and excessive, unabashed cocaine use.

It really is a shame that all anyone takes from or perceives of Amsterdam are these things (which, by the way, are more or less contained within the Red Light district).

To get back on topic, this price is decent. You can generally find the same price or better on other airlines, though. ...As long as your Just keep plugging in possible dates, eventually the price always gets to or below this price.

So is it worth taking the airfare at $360 if we are leaving dec 24, or will prices be lower later? I dont want to pass this up and end up having to pay more.

So is that 360 roundtrip or each way? And is that before taxes or after taxes? If it's 360 roundtrip after taxes that's probably the best deal you'd ever find (but i doubt it's after taxes) but even if it was 360 r/t before taxes it'd be a pretty awesome deal. You can find 99 each way (depending on what day you leave) from November until mid-december, but then around the holiday season the prices go up quite a bit.

There's lots to do in Amsterdam, apart from the places you mentioned, there's Madurodam, De Efteling, cheese market, tulip fields, and it's nice hanging around Centrum in summer months - musicians & street artists, canal rides, good cafe's and restaurants - there's lots to do in Amsterdam as a tourist. It might all get boring after a while if living there but as a visitor its a great place. And the natives are among the friendliest in all of Europe - UK included.

360 r/t after taxes is a great deal and i doubt you'll find much cheaper around christmas time. 300 is usually about the best price after taxes roundtrip from what i've seen

Do HEAVY research on the airline frequent flier program that you pick. There are LOTS of potential bonuses for "first time use" ie : Booking online, checking in at the kiosk, choosing electronic statements for your mileage, checking in online, all can net you HUGE online bonuses. I don't normally fly Northwest but I took one trip to Detroit last year (a direct flight) and got about 8000 miles RT for what is "normally" 1000 FF miles. That's 1/3 a free ticket. All the airlines have different subtleties and nuances but it's really worth the effort to scour their website and perhaps head over to www.flyertalk.com
