Brother Dwight's Proposed Comp Build

Throwing together a computer build for somebody, need suggestions on whether there's anything wrong with it (incompatibilities, stupid-ass mistakes) or general suggestions. Remember, this all has to be shipped to Alaska, which is why everything on this list is from Zipzoomfly. Newegg or such will just pull out some nasty, bladed appendage and attempt some sort of rape when shipping costs are mentioned >>

This is intended for gaming - we're not sure on graphics cards yet, since he's gonna get a bigass monitor (probably 24") and needs a suitably monster card (8800 GT), so we might wait to order that item for a halfway decent deal ($230 or less to Alaska) if one pops up (cheapest on ZZF is $270 ATM). He's not gonna need a monster CPU or a quad-core since he'll be heavily limited by the graphics card *anyway* - and different CPUs dont even seem to make a difference on Crysis @ 1600x1200 or higher. No photoshop/video encoding. I read that the P35 chipset motherboards have much better memory performance then the P965s, but since he's not going to be doing much if any overclocking the motherboard might be overkill. Any problems with motherboard/CPU/RAM compatibility, or the motherboard itself?

Thanks, all.

Thanks. I forgot to mention, but the RAM and Power Supply each have rebates - the power supply is $5 after rebate, RAM is $40. I thought about that motherboard, but it only has four USB slots. Anyone got an opinion on the Biostar board?

that power supply wont even make a decent paper weight. get a corsair you will thank me later. also that's a decent price on the 8800 especially free shipping on all your stuff. i would grab it. just a few thoughts anyway.

Cooler Master PSUs are BAAADDD until you get to the real power pro series, and then they're ok. Corsair is good but expensive, you can try the Xclio goodpower 500W

Nah, shipping's around $70 (free shipping doesn't apply to Alaska. Better then Buy.com's $40 an item, at least..)

What's wrong with the power supply? I've had a Cooler Master with 19A on the 12V do me very well, and that's with a 3.25 ghz C2D (yes, I'm planning to upgrade that PSU.) This one, though, has dual rails.

Definately go for a bigger PSU. I've had PSU problems in the past and they are a BOOGER to diagnose now I get PCPC PSU's

A 500 watt PSU is plenty for that system, if it is of decent quality.

I would stay clear of OCZ memory, too many compatibility problems with various motherboards. Go with Kingston (N5) or Crucial (Ballistix) instead.

nothing is wrong with that PSU!
People have brands that they like and they will tell you to get a different brand just because they don`t like the brand you have!

Peace@!!
