Build to last a while

I just joined up here because of some Intel Fanboy, and I decided that I can do with a 3rd or 4th opinion of a PC I want to build, Keep in mind it will have to last something like 5, 6 years with only minor upgrades (Hence the DDR3)

CPU: Core 2 Duo E6750 Read first.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35T-DQ6

Ram: Team Xtreem DDR3-1600CL7

Graphics Card: Leadtek GeForce 8800GTX

Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum (Need the I/O drive for the Audio from my PS2 with the TV tuner card I have)

TV Tuner: Compro T750 Hybrid SD/HD Tv tuner

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 750Gb (I'll have a 200Gb IDE drive in there with it

Cooling: Gigabyte 3DGalaxy II Watercooling Kit With Danger Den 8800GTX cooler

Case: - Coolermaster Centurion 5

Power: Silverstone ST65ZF

1. A very important "keep in mind", is what the system will actually be used for over the next 5 to 6 years. :roll:

2. Worrying about DDR3 at this point in time is trivial. :laugh:
Your time horizon is so long that you might as well simple save some $$ and buy the much cheaper DDR2 now.

3. You can shave off about $100 by going with the GA-P35-DS3R (DDR2 version) MB. That will also gain you a PCI slot.

4. Use the memory saving to invest in a Q6700 or the Q6600.
IF you must buy today, a quad core will be more beneficial to you in the years to come than a similar speed dual core.

5. Don't bother with water cooling, stick with a good Zalman or Arctic Cooling HS.

6. For the long haul, I'd get a 74GB Raptor and use for the OS drive. You can then use the 750GB drive for storage. I'd imagine that over a 5 or 6 year period, you'd have a need to save something.

7. For a 5 to 6 year horizon, I'd probably pop for a good PC Power & Cooling PS. That along with a good power line conditioner, just to keep everything clean.

1: I'll play games like GTA San Andreas (And IV if that comes to PC) Sims 2, Oblivion and Trackmania, and probably NfS PS

2. Well, what if I need to upgrade to 4Gbs? I don't wanna have to go looking for more Ram when DDR3 is the norm

3. Hmmn, I thought Quad cores didn't scale well? Not to mention they are hardly used by todays games, etc, and by the time 4 cores are actually used, I oculd probably get a 775 Octo core, or a Native Quad core.

4. It gets hot in Australia, Not to mention a Core 2 Duo at 4Ghz would probably get hot.

5. I'm probably gonna get a 150Gb Raptor drive for this computer for my Birthday, I should of said that, I just forgot about it.

Brutuz- I wouldn't worry too much about having to find DDR2 within the next 3-4 years. There is plenty of DDR still on the market today. Once you get past that point, it will probably make more sense to wait until 5 years to upgrade the mobo and memory anyway.

Also, failing to mention that you plan to overclock to 4ghz in warm ambient conditions will get you suggestions to downgrade your cooling every time.

The guy was trying to help you out, just read his opinion and be grateful for it. Don't correct him because you didn't provide all the info up front.
