Building a PC, advice? ;)

Well, I'm sure you guys get these types of threads all the time, but I could use some advice on my following build:

Budget= Approx. $1000

I all ready have (hopefully) compatible optical drives, and a LCD screen.
Anything you guys would recommend changing? And are all the parts compatible?

This is my first time building a PC. =X



And would replacing the mother board with this be a good idea?

Now to go back to rummaging through this room for a Windows XP install disc. Hopefully I can find it so i don't have to spend 100+ dollars on a new OS...

Did you see the sticky at the top of the forum titled NOTICE -- ?

check it out then go from there

that motherboard should be fine if you are cool with 1 graphics card only

sounds fine....throw a couple gigs of ram, a hdd, a e8400 or q6600 or similar and a 8800gt/s or hd3870 and rock and roll.

I am really just asking if the parts would work together, and if there are better parts I could've used. (For my price range).

I guess I'll answer the questions anyways though...



1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

a. Daily use, and gaming. (Obviously not on extremely high settings though)

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

a. Stated above, $1000.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

a. I plan to buy from Newegg (simplest one-stop shop) and I live in the U.S.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

a. I lean towards Intel and Nvidia.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

a. My current optical drive.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

a. Yes, but none of which have my exact build (obviously) so I want some input on mine.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

a. Overclocking is a possibility, but at this time no.

Solid build.

I'd definitely go with 4GB RAM instead of 2GB. I'd probably snag the P35-DS3L or the IP35-E instead, but that MSI board should do just fine. The MSI 8800GT has a better cooler on it, but no Step Up program or lifetime warranty (3 years instead).
