Building new computer, Questions

My sig has the specs for my new system that I've just built and booted today. A few things I wanted to ask.

My case, the SX830, uses drive rails. I've never used these before, so I don't know much about them. I installed the CD-RW, guessing how to use these rails. I got it in, but the back of the drive wiggles about a 1/4" if I apply pressure. Is this okay?

The I/O port on the same case: This thing seems really flimsy, all the ports don't even fully come out, even though the mainboard is mounted properly. Anything I can do about it? Also, cards fit in the PCI and AGP slots near the I/O ports easily. The slots furthest from the I/O port, however, are very difficult to insert cards. The board is screwed into the proper mounting screws.

The RAM: If I boot up with Quick POST enabled, the system goes through as on my other computers. Without it enabled, the system counts up to 130000KB, and then back to zero, up to 130000, in a cycle. It doesn't stop unless I press esc, but then continues as normal.

I think I might have more, but these are good for now. Thanks to all who help. I'll even try doing RC5, to add a little more to the effort.

I have four fans in my case, two in the back that came with it, and two in the front that I got for $5 at outpost. All four of them are set to blow air out of the case, is this the best method? Or should I set two to blow in, and two out.

1: no, 1/4" is quite a bit of movement. Make sure things are lined up, and the drives "click" into place.

2: depending on you your definition of "fully out" it's prolly ok. As for the cards, could be the case just a tad mis-aligned. However, how do you mean difficult? As in, hard to put the card in, or align w/ the cut outs?

3: normal.

It is like the mainboard is angled instead of parallel with the side of the case. The slot closest to the I/O port is easy to fit cards into, as well as the second. The third can still be done, with pressure. The fourth and on I have not been able to get a card in. I might be able to make it in, but I don't want to risk damaging anything. The cards line up fine with the cut outs, it's just that the slots are too close to the sides, because of the angle.
Thanks.

Rather than endless, I think you will find that with fast POST disabled, the RAM is actually checked 5 times.

Anyone?

Also: I installed the Duron 600 with the GlobalWin FOP-32-1 HSF. I used the Phase Change compound that was already on it. I've had it up and running for a while, and the BIOS reports that the CPU is at 51 degrees C. Is this too hot?

hmmmm i had the same problem with my epox board with my new t-bird inside, i couldn't get a crappy modem to fit into the isa slot at the bottom, away from the ports....so what i did, is i unscrewed the motherboard, not all the way, loosened it, and after that it fit in fine, pushed a little bit harder than usual, but it fit better than before, and i just screwed the motherboard back in and it worked...dunno if it'll work for you though...good luck
