Looking to start my selection of making a new gaming computer. My current setup is just outdated and playing new games like BF2 is sluggish.

My first concern would be should I go with AMD over Intel?
What boards work well with what components. My last computer was bought through dell because of a super sale and coupons .. so I didn't have much to choose from. But this time I want to build something that will good for a couple of years and can expand nicely. I'm also up in the air about video cards... should I go with a PCI express or is currently not worth the money.

Items I'm looking for: (items I'm considering)
MB
Processor
Video Card
Monitor (Current 21 inch Sony G500 possibly upgrade to LCD)
DVD Burner (Plextor Dual Layer)
HD (Raptor)
Case (Thermaltake)
Power Suppy
Sound Card

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

Hmm with a 2k budget, I would spend 1.3k on THe machine and .7 K for perks!

Also, just to add, with your setup I would get 2x 1gb of tight timing ram. And also with that amount of cash, I wouldn't overclock at all.

SLI of 7800's is complete overkill.

i'd say

Athlon x2 4400+
epox EP-9npa Ultra or Dfi ut nf4-d
2gb of ram
seasonic s12 500w
case of your liking
WD raptor + seagate 7200.8 160-300GB
thermalright xp90 or xp120

should be right at about $2000

and overclock alittle, should get about 2.5ghz+ and it will be a monster at everything

not too different from any of the other suggestions
