silverdj, did you read the forums before building the PC? Just wondering why you went the AMD route. If you got the parts cheap then obviously it doesn't matter.

Congratulations!

There is nothing more rewarding than building a system up to your own specifications.

Now that you realise it isn't nearly as hard as it's cracked up to be, don't tell anyone so we can all keep our jobs!

LOL congrats! Man that reminds me of the time when I first started building my rig... buying part by part by week by week... the joy I felt when I finished it (and was working fine!) is indescribable!

I went with the 7300 because i don't really do that much gaming and i went with the AMD because that is what I like.

Back over the last few years, tons and tons of people were buying inferior intel chips. It was not that much out of the ordinary

Yeah! Booting up your self built computer for the first time is made of pure bliss and Christmas morning.

Yup. I find it pretty damn funny myself that from 2000/2001 to mid-2006 AMD owned and people still purchased Intel.

Now we have C2D and people want to act like that in March 2006 the FX60 wasn't PIMP ******!

Its not about buying inferior chips. If you wanted most bang for your buck, you bought AMD for the past few years. Now if you want the most performance, you buy Intel. If you just want to stick with AMD, theres nothing wrong with it obviously. Its still a great performer just not the best out there for the same price.

OP if you thought building it was fun, start OCing it and see how that feels

Nice one, ive built 4-5 rigs and none have worked at all when i pushed the power button for the first time lol. Well 1 did but it was more of an upgrade than a new build.

Congrats! My first build was an 8088. with a whopping 10mb HD and kickass EGA 16color graphics! Took 8 hours to set the HD interleave and lowlevel format!

Good job . It's like I told one of my friends who was asking me to come down to Maryland (I live in PA up near the NY border for reference) to help him build a computer... "Dude, it's not that hard... nerds like me just make you think it's hard so you pay us a lot of money to do it for you!" Needless to say, he built it and even had an issue (needed to reset the CMOS... really a hit or miss with that badboy) that he resolved by himself.

It actually wasn't pimp. News about the Conroe was out and everyone was waiting for it, hehe. Now before news of the Conroe... yes, it was pimp. And when people wanted Intel P4s or Pent.Ds, we still recommended against it, just as we're doing now with amd. However, like everyone said, the choice is yours and they're still good chips.

The first PC I built was a 486 dx2 120Mhz... before then, we had a local shop build all of our previous systems. Heh, if you think OC'ing is fun, just start taking advantage of that OC...

"It was the best of times.... it was the worst of times..."

Yes, it's a nice feeling when you press the power switch for the first time and it boots up - but a cold, deathly sickness when you hit that switch and nothing happens.

I just went through that a couple days ago with my new upgrade parts - not my first build, but I was quite disturbed when it refused to power up when I *knew* I'd hooked everything up right. As it was, I had one of those metal legs for motherboard mounting in a spot I wasn't using and *might* have been shorting it out. As it is, I removed the motherboard from the case, tested it OUTSIDE the case and was much relieved to see it going. I removed the wayward standoff and it's working INSIDE the case now.

The bigger question is why AMD?

Not everything has to be about Intel,in the end its his money and choice and we have to respect that.

Congrats m8!.

Congrats! I find that personally picking what you want is a hell of a lot better then having it pre-built.
