built new rig but something short

i put everything together and hit the power, then i hear something burn in power supply and smells something burn in PS, what can cause this problem?
here's the spec:

P4 2.4/ ecs L4S8A2
512 crucial ddr 2100
40 hd
cd rom

nothing special, i tried 3 direfferent power supply, all of them shorted
is it something wrong with MB?

Yeah, either it's something bad with the mobo (make sure it's not screwed in too tightly), something bad with the power you're feeding into the PSU/the PSU's setting (make sure the voltage switch is on the right setting!! If you are in a country where the house power is 220 v, make sure the switch is on 220 and NOT 115... and vice versa), or, possibly, coincidentally, all three PSUs have been bad (very, very unlikely).

2 of 3 PS are brand new just bought from fry's to test it, other one is from DELL also new, i just submit an RMA to newegg, well... actually smoke came out and i saw sparking in PS
will this effect on ram, hdd, v-card also???

Hard to tell. Could have had no effect at all, could have fried them. If you're really worried, test them in another machine.

If the fixes I suggested above didn't do it for you, you might want to try a new PSU on just that mobo. Or better yet, short Pin 14 to one of the grounds (green to black) and start the PSU up on its own.

If the PSU runs fine by itself, the problem is probably with your mobo.

Maybe something like a screw fell down behind your mobo and is shorting some connections...?
