Despite the loss of tax revenue to the US Government, this is probably a good thing for Americans as it will encourage Tim Hortons to spread through the USA. Not only do you get our sweet timbits, but you'll also get jobs. And decent coffee. These places are everywhere.

Also Whopper > Big Mac

I don't see Timmies making it big in the US of A. Way too much competition that's already established and the marketing machine probably has people feeling that they should support "American" restaurants -- worked here in Canada.

Big Mac >>>> Whopper. Unfortunately, only BK is around where I work, so it's mostly that for me.

Ya, I don't really care about this deal. I'm still going to patron both. It's not like I have many other choices where I frequent.

P.S. VERY jealous that I didn't own Timmy's stock before Monday. Shit is up like 50% now. I remember thinking about buying some when it was around $40 -- I am disappoint.

LOL! I bet some of the Buffett boot lickers in P&N will love to hear that.

As someone who is often leaning towards traditional liberal views You can quote me on the fact that I very much said earlier. Fuck him and his alcohol distribution monopoly and all the other investing shit he does.

He is a festering pile of hypocritical cockroachshit.

And he even disowned his adopted granddaughter because she was in a documentary about the 1%.

Warren Buffett disowned his son Peter's adopted daughter, Nicole, in 2006 after she participated in the Jamie Johnson documentary, The One Percent. Although his first wife had referred to Nicole as one of her "adored grandchildren",[78] Buffett wrote her a letter stating, "I have not emotionally or legally adopted you as a grandchild, nor have the rest of my family adopted you as a niece or a cousin."

The only taxes they are dodging on on profits made in other countries. Why does the US govt deserve income tax on profit made in Great Britain or Japan?

You are ignoring the fact that these multinational corporations pull bookkeeping tricks all the time to shift their income to other low-tax countries. Look at GE which pays no income tax at all in the US.

I stick by my guns. I'll send my business elsewhere if BK does this and I encourage all true Americans to do the same.

PS-Horton's opened a shop near my office (central CT) two or three years ago. It lasted less than a year. I went once, it seemed to me to be an overpriced version of Starbucks (which is really saying something).

Hmmm. We have Tim Hortons all over Ohio and they're actually very popular. They've replaced other chains like Duncan Donuts and they seem to have a big morning coffee following due to their drive throughs.

Do you not take advantage of every legal means to pay the lowest possible tax when you file your Federal and State return? If you buy from an online site that doesn't charge your state sales tax do you declare it on your state return? As long as what the companies are doing is legal under the existing tax code then I see nothing wrong with them taking advantage of every stupid loophole the idiot politicians have left in the tax code in their efforts to give some favored policy/constituency a tax break. Want to fix it then overhaul the entire tax code and do away with all loopholes period.

So, every time you use the "legal" means to avoid taxes on your yearly tax report, you shred up your passport and become a Canadian Citizen to do so, correct?

Oh.. you don't? Hm weird because that's pretty much what these companies are doing through tax inversion. Which is not at all what normal Joe's do to evade taxes. They will under report income, or over estimate any charitable donations, etc. Don't even try to compare the two.

They can't be blamed for adopting the lowest cost legal strategy, although they will also have to deal with the branding issues that stem from the way they've done it. They're likely counting on it blowing over, and they're likely right.

The food still sucks, although I have to be honest and say I formed my indelible impressions, for the most part, back in the 70's and 80's when it was real junk. It might be better now.

I miss BK and Wendy's of the 80s. You know when the Whopper was actually good? Same with Wendy's Quarter pounder single. Food quality has gone downhill substantially at both places while prices have shot up. And they wonder why traffic is down?

All they have to do is look at Chickf-fil-a. Clean stores, great customer service, and quality food. Then people will come and everything will take care of itself. It's not rocket science.

Dunkin Donuts didn't do much to update their image. Tim Hortons has a "bistro" feel about it that's a lot more modern.

I always imagined Tim Horton's would have a Denny's/Bob Evan's feel to it.

And if the idiot politicians happened to write the tax code in such a way that you could pay no tax (which is essentially what they have done in the case of GE and some others) would you still pay tax?

Are you trying to say Chick-fil-a doesn't have quality food? The chicken sandwich and waffle fries are pretty much the same as when I first ate it in the 1980s. The only major change is they switched from peanut oil to canola oil because of peanut allergies. They still use the thick cuts of real chicken breasts. And price of the chicken sandwich is only $2.99. Tell me where I can get better sandwich for the price.

My point is Chick-fil-a stayed consistent and kept up the quality. Burger King and Wendy's haven't. They only cared about short term profits and pleasing their shareholders. Results speak for itself. Chick-fil-a has grown leaps and bound and is printing money while BK and Wendy's are struggling.
