I have a Toshiba DVD player and I'm burning a DVD using Memorex DVD-R. The DVD will play for about three to five minutes and then it starts sputtering until it finally just freezes up. Is this a signal of a bad DVD player or just bad DVD media?

Try burning at lower speeds (2x-4x). If still having problems try different media.

And if dvd is not working properly then there will be the problrm o dvd. ANd still not then u can check the dvd player.

Like others said, burn slower. Also, in my experience, memorex just blows. Every time I have an issue with media its always memorex.

Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, memorex really sucks for me. Dozens of different burners and systems and memorex has always been more miss than hit.

The problem with some brand of media is you might not always get the same media. They use different manufacturers and can change without notice.
If you install the program imgburn it tells you who actually made the media. It is a small program , free and doesn't install any junk.
http://www.imgburn.com/

Put in the dvd, click discovery and scroll down , section will read like:

Physical Format Information (ADIP):
Disc ID: CMC MAG-M01-00
Book Type: DVD+R
Part Version: 1
Disc Size: 120mm

That was a HP lightscribe media.
If I go here:

I can see it is being used in a lot of brands

For me I only buy Sony Accucore media if I buy it in the store as the actual media is usually Taiyo Yuden, who make good media.

I've heard this also, but why would this work? Does it burn bigger holes in the DVD or something?
