Burning Smell

Okay, I'm 99% sure it's from my computer, and my PSU is reading -12.85v for the -12v rail (all other rails are within spec). 350w Antec with 3 hard drives, 9800 pro, 2500+ @ 2.2 ghz, Nexus fan controller... (NF7-S 2.0). Any ideas?

I should probably mention that if I smell the psu exhaust air directly it smells perfectly fine.

CPU is fine; can't check GPU because it's a 9800 Pro, but it feels (the heatsink) about okay...

Don't quote me on this, but I've heard Antec PSUs sometimes smell of "burnt ozone" but otherwise are fine. Im not sure where I heard it from or if its actually true so don't just take my word for it.

Check the ATX connector at the mobo for charred pins - usually at the red (+5V) wires. Check all other wire insulation - at drives etc. -12V isn't used and will soon be gone from ATX PSUs - the -5V is already gone.

you didn't happen to get a new crt monitor did you? or new hardware for that matter.. sometimes new hardware burns plastic when it get's hot or melts it a bit.. check your graphics card and see if the fan is stil securce against the chip and ram sinks etc.. it could also possibly be a ribbon cable form a hard drive touching like a northbridge/southbridge chipset on your computer or cpu or gpu any really hot spot could be bruning a wire and plastic smells really bad..

did you install any new things with LEDs becuase i had a burning smell when i plugged my LEDs on the front of my case, but it went away in an 1hr

beside -12V is not used it has a +/- 10% tolerance range.

I take it that's a 350W smartpower PSU?

I have exactly the same setup as you and that PSu couldn't hack it when I overclocked my CPU - in short it melted but luckily didn't take any other components out with it.

inspect carefully, no smell is normal. i once had a smell and it was really strong... i looked at the pc and it looked normal. it wasn't until it failed to boot a few days later that i noticed the psu power cable had welded itself to the m/b.... the melted scortched bit was facing the back of teh case where theres no clearance so i didn't see it lol even after i took it out i couldn't separate the two plugs.
