Is this thread just intended to show off that you today learned something that is taught to high school freshmen? Are you going to create another thread to let us know that there are three branches of government, or that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand touched off WWI?

FWIW, I don't recall anyone ever saying that President Bush does not like black people - Kanye West (who I consider a moron) said he didn't care about black people, which is an entirely different thing. FWIW, I personally don't think President Bush cares about most black people, any more than he cares about most white people. I think he cares about people who can further the interests of himself and his friends, and most folks lack this ability. I have never seen much about President Bush that suggests much in the way of generalized compassion for others.

This a complete misconception. It is true that the democrats did fight against civil rights in the 40s-60s. But those democrats were then called DixieCrats led by folks like Strom Thruman and George Wallace. Thurman, who is called the father of the republican party, was staunch racist who ran for president using a segragation platform in the late 40's. He actually won 4 states, go figure.
Well in the 60s Thurman switched parties because the democrats to him had become to sensitive the the needs of blacks and the republican party as we know it today was born. He encoraged many racist democrats of that era to switch to the republicans, including helping have Barry Goldwater run for president. The only famous racist of that era to not switch parties was George Wallace. Jessie Helms was another racist democrat who switched parties to the republicans, he also had a huge part of building the republican foundation as we know it today.

I don't know anyone who calls Strom Thurmond that. He was central to the rise of the Southern Wing of the Republican party, but I'm quite confident the GOP predates Strom by at last a few years.
