I was just wondering what is the difference between buying a dell laptop in the home or small business section. The small business section seems to be cheaper than the laptops on the home section. Can someone give me some sort of a clarification, because I am about to purchase a laptop from them.

Go with whatever has the best deal. Keep in mind that I believe one of them may charge you sales tax (SB I think). But I have also heard rumors that SB support is higher quality than the Home support.

Got my inspiron 600m through dell SB awhile ago and have had a good experience with it. I would recommend getting the Complete Care warrenty if they still have it and you are getting a mid to high end laptop. I had my system board and probably 1/2 of the other components, including all of the outer casing replaced after my laptop took a spill down the stairs (along with myself).

*edit* also be sure to put your name down as the name of the company, any rebates will come in this name

The Home section features Inspirion, which is consumer segment. The SB section features Latitude, which is commercial segment. Because my company uses Latitude, I bought a Latitude as an individual. I like my Latitude because its design. Pretty fulfill all my requirement to it.

The point being just choose the features, which segment it belongs to is not important at all.

If you are saying that there is no difference between Inspirons and Latitudes? I disagree...

Latitudes are MUCH better built than inspirons. Latitudes are business class machines, built solidly.

Latitudes are definitely built better than their consumer (inspiron) counterparts. I would go with the latitude over the inspiron any day... they are quite solid... still a dell though...

The main difference between the Inspiron and the Lattitude is the docking capability of the Latitudes (which is what I use at work) Dell gets their notebooks from whichever Taiwanese or Korean OEM manufactures them. I don't use Inspirons, but the Latitude C and D series have never given us any problems over the course of the 3 year leases we have with Dell.

Your 8600 is one of the better built inspirons...

Well, my Lispiron 600m looks and feels just like a Latitude d600... I'm sure they're just rebadges, right?

Can anyone attest?

I thought that the only difference between the inspiron and latitude lines was the chassis. So the shell is different, but the guts of the machine, I think, are the same.

the internals are about the same on both lines...it is the case of the laptop that is different.

inspirons are cheaply made; well of lesser quality than the lattitude counterpart.

i own a 600m and a d500, my sister uses the 600m while i myself use the d500, sure the 600 is faster with better specs, but she loves my d500 and wants to trade whenever she gets the chance...both the keyboards are the same 600m and d500 that is...

the d500 just feels more solid while the 600m feels weak...try picking up the laptop at a corner you can see that the inspiron flexes way more than the d500

the touch pad on my d500 is of better quality than the 600 by far and the buttons are nice sturdy where as the 600m is very loose and doesn't make a good sounding noise...because its of lesser quality

i could've gotten a crappy 600m but my sister's bf also has a inspiron 5150 and it is not as the same quality as the d500

Have three 600m's (family) and they are looser than a hooker in vegas.... Just feels like you made a cardboard computer, works ok for a bit but then everything loosens up which is a problem..

I think the 700m is probably the most solidly built Inspirion of the line. The only other Inspirion I've had RECENT experience with though is my brother's 600m, so maybe the higher ones are better nowadays. In any case the 700m is definately more sturdy and solid than the 600m. Of course, the 600m has slightly better specs with an actual graphics card, while the 700m only has integrated intel graphics, but in terms of build quality I feel the 700m is much better than the 600m.
