I have bought PCs in the past with intel Pentium Processors. I am in the process of purchasing a laptop, and would like some help in selecting the right one. I dont have much knowledge these days on which processor is the best value. I am looking for the best processor on the market these days. I see now that there are dual processor laptops also. I am going to get a laptop with about 80gb of HD, a gig of ram, but was wondering what your thoughts were on the different processors out these days. I would like your opinions before i make the purchase. Thanks in advance to all.

Well as far as what processor to get you should go with an intel core 2 duo. They offer better battery life than the Turion X2s and a bit more performance as well. There are 2 models of core 2 duos out there, 2mb and 4mb cache ones. The 4mb cache ones tend to get a bit pricey on the upgrade so I dont think you can get one based on your budget. But there are really no difference between the two other than amount of cache. What size laptop were you looking for? The inspiron E1405 and E1505 are pretty much in the same exact price range. Are you going to be using it mostly for office applications? Because if you are a 1.8GHz or even 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo will do the trick. Also since you are getting a dell you might want to look up coupon sites on google because most of the time you can find some coupons that give you a couple of hundred bucks off on dells.

As far as memory is concerned do not pay dell to upgrade it for you as you can max out the ram on it by buying it on newegg for a lot cheaper than what dell charges you. Right now you can buy 2 1GB sticks of DDR2667 which is what most laptops use nowadays for around 110 bucks whereas Dell would charge you around $300 for that upgrade. Prices on PC hardware has come down a lot in the past couple of years that 900-1000 dollars can actually get you a very nice laptop.

Wow that is a great deal. You should definitely go for that deal on the 6400.
