What is taking facebook down?

facebook bills itself as a "social" service.

it was created by anti-social rejects, more or less.

not that this fact is such a big deal, but the internet itself is the most anti-social medium out there.

when FB dies, it will die under it's own failure to try and be what it never can be, and it's refusal to accept that fate.

...does that make sense?

uh...what?

eh?

"to/too" in that phrase has always meant to me 'too much' [bad]. what else does it mean?

is someone going to "bad?" what is "bad," and how does one go there?

let me know--the single 'oh,' "to," just never has fit for me in that phrase.

here's a very condensed version, I'll use FB as my example. Not a day goes by where I don't get bombarded with "what's your FB info?" "I don't have a FB sorry..."

and they go into a Christian cult like speech about how my life is utter shit without FB and a run down of what I'm missing out on. I get tired of it. And a few have continued to sell me on why I need a FB every time they see me for a damn month.

wow, I don't know anyone like that.

I give them my number.

:\

they call back if they need me. Or I call them. whatever.

shocking, I know, but little bitches these days have forgotten how to live.

keep up the good fight!

So wait, let me get this straight.

You are against FB because it's so useful that everyone thinks you should have it, but you'd rather have the awkward response of not having one because...?

Nope you didn't give any real reason. I'm just going to assume you prefer to stay anonymous because you are actually anti-social in normal life.

roflcakes!

this, from the guy who "OWNS NO TV, WATCHES NO MOVIES, LISTENS TO NO RADIO....ETC, ETC."

what a shining example of contemporary culture you are.

Time defeats all stupid social networking sites. Which is every one of them.

Time didnt defeat any of them, it was a bigger and better(?) social networking site.

So be careful when you wish for the demise of facebook, who knows what you'll be left with!D:

lol in real life I'm very social, the internet isn't real life. And sorry I don't want a FB and get tired of the FB drones telling me all the features it has that change their life for the better. Do you like Jehovah Witnesses coming up to you on the street wanting to convert you and get you to start coming to their Kingdom Hall? People thinking I should have one and people cramming the "sign up!" down my throat are 2 different things. Online I am anonymous, because in real life I have more than enough friends than to need to sign up for some online wanna be version of real life.

this, 1million percent.

the kiddies these days that learned IM before they could dial a phone number, or walk outside and play in the dirt with their buddies...have no fucking clue what socialising means.

I own a TV, with surround sound, which I watch my movies on. I listen to music, a lot, just not the radio which is mostly like watching TV, lots of crap programming and a bunch of commercials.

And I'd sure like to see your reasoning for a social site designed explicitly for people to stay updated with each other as a means of being anti-social, as well as how the internet itself is anti-social, especially given the fact you are trying to make this point on a public forum designed for like-minded(lawl) people to socialize on.

FB isn't an online wanna be version of real life, but you wouldn't know that since you don't have an account, would you? You hate what you have no clue about and make all these assumptions. Do you use google? Email? THE INTERNET? Because your ridiculous notions of why you shouldn't use FB can be applied to not using the internet at all.

I don't know what FB is? LOL it's a social networking site, I had an account on sixdegrees, which was basically the same site just a buncha years eariler. FB is myspace without any character or life to it.

FB isn't really anything like myspace, that's why myspace is failing. You think having an account a long time ago and some obscur social site means you know what FB is? You are denying yourself a useful tool that is dominating the internet culture. It's like being against google, and for no reason because you once used the alltheweb search engine.

Time defeats all stupid social networking sites. Which is every one of them. Each one was more popular than the one it took down, but they all fell at one point. I don't care how big Facebook is, it will die. Maybe not tomorrow, or even next year. But it will die. People will start to see how stupid it is and actually begin to care about their privacy. I remember when Myspace ruled the internet, I remember when Yahoo ruled the internet. 10 years ago nobody was fucking with Yahoo. FB's time is coming, just a matter of being patient until something people perceive as better comes along. And then that will too die when the next big thing comes along. It's a never ending cycle. Twitter will be around longer than Facebook, mark my words.

QueBert, I would be the happiest person when the above comes true. I dislike Facebook with a passion. I cannot believe thinking people can be addicted to an online "social networking" site. Dont people have friends in real life that they have to sit in front of a computer and interact?

I was with you until you linked that. That guy has SOME valid points, but for the most part he needs to lay off the drugs. Myspace is better? It's only better if everyone has decent tastes, and not everyone can understand yellow font cant be read on the bright picture of you x50 in the background. His points on facebook being harder or even hard to use in the first place are hilarious. My dad who can't find his email can use his facebook fine with the way they have it labeled.

you missed the :whiste: emote, hence your inability to understand sarcasm, which is easily mis-conveyed on the internet (something that socialising easily accomplishes. you also have to have practice to understand sarcasm. and internet forums...any social site...sarcasm and generally tomfoolery is easily mistaken for super-seriousness. people become animals. they know nothing.) ...anyway, thanks for proving my point...which you ahd no intention of doing.

besides, that, I give you this stalwart technology for staying in touch:

how is it nothing like myspace?

it's the same model, better skin, much better advertising and data-collecting algorithm.

that's all it is.

period.

if you believe anything more than that, then you're simply fooling yourself. lawls.

I didn't click it....but he's actually arguing that myspace is better?

lulz

the delusion actually begins when people think that social networking = social. why even argue between the two? besides that, myspace looks like utter garbage.

rofl.

Myspace failed by giving users too much control over their profile pages. It made browsing Myspace like browsing the internet in 1995. Tacky wallpapers, annoying music, unreadable fonts, etc. Facebook's initial advantage was the consistency of its layout.

+++++

Definitely this. A lot of myspace pages look awful, they remind me my old geocities website back in the day.

Yeah, MySpace made some of the pages on GeoCities back in the day look well-designed.
