How many major companies are there that do not use exchange/sharepoint/ad/etc? I would guess that tech giants like Google do not, but other than that... Yeah, the MS setup is fairly pricey for smaller business and isn't the new sexy that tech startups will use, but it is not going to die any time soon.
I was thinking the same thing. I prefer C#.
Granted you have more options on platforms with Java, but that can be a bad thing. In a corporate environment, know-nothing VPs tend to come in periodically and change the platform where they can as part of so-called 'strategic vision'. So you might wind up moving a Java application from Linux to say, z/OS. With C#, they can't do that, at least not very easily or cheaply. Being locked into Microsoft's world is not really so bad
