Hey guys - figure I'll give this a try in this forum first.

I'm wondering just how cool are the new Tualatin Celeries. I bought a retail 1Ghz one that I don't plan to overclock (it's going in my jukebox system)

I've heard of people using just heatsinks & not fans.. How feasible is this in a book pc (like my MS-6215)
I have a 1U Alpha 6035 cooler that I used on a Duron before. It has pads for use with Intel procs.

Think it'd be possible to just use the 1U alpha cooler & no fan ??
I'm already using a Seagate Cuda IV 80g hdd & that leaves the 40mm fan in front & 40mm fan in PSU.

TIA for any comments

One thing you can try is lower the Vcore. The Tualerons will run @ default speed as low as 1.2 V. I would think with a good HS, and some airflow to take away the heat, it could work.

According to here, the Cel-1.0A PGA (Tualatin) puts out 27.8W Max.Power Dissipation - wayyyy to much for HS only unless using alternative cooling with case fan(s) such as blowhole or ducting.

Yes, there would need to be some airflow, but its doable. Dell and Gateway have been doing it for years with CPU's that put out a heck of a lot more heat. The XBOX also uses a pasive HS on the 733 MHz PIII with a small case fan behind it for airflow. Undervolting would bring that power down quite a bit which would also help.

maybe I should just try modding the cpu fan to run slower
the alpha is a really good sink - i might be able to manage some ducting from the front fan.
