Q9650 running BF4 and COD:G Maxed at 70-100fps (1920x1080, 2xAA).

I know this setup is ancient, but it still manages ok in todays games.
BF3 & BF4 maxed out 1920x1080 2XAA at 70-100fps, COD: Ghosts maxed at 60fps (1920, 2xAA), AC4 at 40fps (Maxed 1920, 2xTXAA)

See if anyone who's been around long enough, and remembers 775 oc'ing can help me with the occasional (once a month) lockup.

It's the lockup where the screen freezes and the sound loops in a loud droning sound.

Thanks if you used to know about 775 oc's back in the day and can give me a tip.

A lockup (or any problem) that happens once a month is difficult to diagnose.

The most obvious cause is that you are pushing the overclock to the limit with the current cooling and current components and sometimes it crosses that limit.

Drop one or two MHz off the fsb and bring it down to 4.0 even? See if that helps maybe ? My q6600 loved even numbers for some reason.

4GHz for a core2 part is very high
my guess is the system is not 100% stable and never has been

You'll likely have to back down a bit on the oc, and stress test exhaustively to verify stability.

My old Q9450 was never stable above 3.2GHz when I ran it.
If you're absolutely sure it was 100% stable at >4GHz (I highly doubt) then there is a chance your psu or motherboard might be getting tired, check the capacitors for sign of bulging. Also not sure what cooling you have, but cleaning out dust and possibly reaapplying TIM could be worth it.

didn't realize the family differences were so great between the q9xxx and q6xxx (qx6750 @ 3GHz, stock V) as I am having issues gaming bf4 @ 1024 x 768 in just the campaign mode. My 560ti is used 1/2 and am running just 4GB of ddr2-800 (although no hitting max) makes me think I should push this rig harder as I am looking for deals on skt1150/1155. Sorry for off topic but 70-100fps is excellent w/ your setup.
