i have an epox 4g4a with 845g chipset which i thought can only address 4 banks. i just got a stick of 512mb 2700 ddr today. i popped it in and it was showing 1gb which shocked me because i had 1 single-sided 256mb and 1 double-sided 256mb in it already. those two used 3 banks and the new one is double-sided for a total of 5 banks. anyone can shed some light on this? is there such a thing as a double-sided ram that is recognized as a single bank? maybe by the number of chips it has? it's not a problem so i didn't think it belongs in any of the hardware threads. thanks.
edit:nm. i just realized that the double-sided 256 that i have has the same number of chips (8) on it as the single-sided. i guess it doesn't matter how it is physically distributed on the pcb, what matters is the density. somebody correct me if i'm wrong. otherwise, go ahead and delete this thread mod.
