I used to be a pro at parallel parking when I had to park on the street in the city all the time, but I honestly haven't had to do it in years and fucked it up last time. Quite embarrassing! My car was pretty much constantly run into during those days though...most people would just back up until they heard a thump to know they couldn't go any further.

Backing into a spot isn't that hard though, although it rarely seems worthwhile except in the case irishScott mentioned.

Was a valet for 5 years so it started as a requirement. Nowadays while backing in I am 100% straight perfectly in between the lines and it's significantly faster for me to pull out (lol)


I'm pretty confident I can back into a spot faster and better than most people can park head-in to a spot.

Thats because its easier to manoeuvre a car at low speed in reverse.

I'd still park front end in in a supermarket car park as its easier to get to the boot to pack.

Yes, I can back a car in a straight line and/or parallel park. I have been at fault in an accident but it was a fender-bender and the only accident I've been in after 24 years of driving.

When I've taken the Class A test in various states, I had to pull up in a street and back a trailer into an alley 90 degrees from where I started. Not terribly difficult IMO, but the examiners all say it's one of the things that cause many people to fail the test.

Hell, I know lots of people who couldn't do it with their car.

Often, driving a truck, I had to do that, then back the trailer down an alley, weaving around parked cars, dumpsters, etc.
It's not too difficult if it's just a "tractor-trailer, but once you change the hinge point to truck-trailer combo, it gets more difficult...and doubles are hard as hell.
