I'd say ban it anyplace other than your own private property and I would be fine. Yeah smokers would have a fit but then they would get worked up possibly coughing up a lung.

I mean if we can't walk around town drunk off our @ss why is smoking around the same town okay?

Give it another 5-10 years and smoking will be all but banned completely. A few years later everyone is going to be crying like crazy when their income taxes go up to replace the tax revenue that cigs bring in.

And I am a smoker. I just think the lawmakers need to quit dicking around. If your going to make it illegal to smoke outside just skip the bs and make tobacco products illegal across the board. Sure, I will have to quit smoking but my overall costs will come way down while the nonsmokers get to help me pay the tax revenue that us smokers used to burden alone.

Cali made $2.2 Billion from tobacco taxes alone in '01. That doesn't count the taxes on the profit from stores that sell them either.

Amen. Make it all illegal (good luck with that).

The South Park tolerance episode hit it on the head. We should love everyone except smokers.

I don't really mind it if people smoke outside. The issue is, we have a city wide ban on smoking in any place of business here, so people go outside to smoke in huge crowds, then they all just put their cigarette out on the ground regardless of whether there is an ashtray. Then I end up walking in pools of butts and inevitably tracking one or two into my apartment. It's pretty disgusting.

I suppose an outdoor smoking ban would help, but it would be better if the cops just ticketted people who don't use ashtrays and just drop their used cig butts on the ground.

I wouldn't have a problem with smokers if they wouldn't litter so much. I have no idea what percentage of smokers litter but my guess is it's really high based on the huge volume of cigarette butts laying around.

I would gladly support such a law that banned smoking outdoors or smoking entirely. As far as having a drop in tax revenue because of it, I would say that tax should be switched over to alcoholic beverages. Its time to fix what is wrong with this country and we should start with our health.

What I can't believe is that they actually are trying to make a law for people who smoke while their babies are in the car.

To me, if I had kids, I would not smoke. I would at least pull over and smoke out side. It would make a long trip but at least people wouldn't have to make a law for it.

(yes I still smoke )

Explain how you can make ban constitutional?

Morality legislation. I suppose you support ridiculous taxes on fast food, soda, candy, etc...

I know...let's tax you if you don't belong to and use a fitness center. How about tax breaks for bicycle owners.

It is purely a health issue. Since smoking is clearly bad, it should be banned in all forms, in all places. That said, obesity kills far more people in this country than smoking. In light of this, I believe it only makes sense to also ban fattening and unhealthy foods. All fast-food should be eliminated as unhealthy, all fried foods, and all citizens should report to diet stations where they will be assessed for the proper intake of nutrients - those deemed overweight will face criminal penalties for not losing weight or failing to comply with government-ordered exercise plans. Uberfatties will be imprisoned until healthy enough to roam free again.

It has been and always will be the job of the Government to identify what is in your best interest, and to force you to comply with its findings.

Just because you own a bike doesn't mean you use it. Tax break for fitness standard!

Crashing airplanes is the primary cause for deaths during air travel. I think we should ban those too. There have been many motorcycle related deaths too. Those should be banned from the streets. Did you know that knives can be used to kill? BAN THEM!

Alcoholic beverages are good for your health when consumed in moderation.
