Yes, they can bust you. My friends and I who have Cox, Charter, Comcast, Pacbell, Verizon, and Speakeasy have all got busted by our isps. Most of us only downloaded small mp3 files through torrents and kazaa. We got reported to the cops, had to pay fines ranging from $1000-5000 and were put on the internet blacklist.

You didn't get busted for downloading. You got busted for uploading. If you don't share, you're pretty much fine as of right now.

yup...
You cannot get busted for downloading. Thats violates your privacy rights. They cant know what u download.
However, they can upload from u and if they get a "full" file from ur particular ip, u can be. If that file is illegal, u are violating the copyrights, and could possibly be charged.

Ive been busted before using BitTorrent.

I had my max upload set at like 6kb/s

After about 20 games and 20 movies, they shut off my internet.

Called em and they told me to never do it again or the consequences will be severe.

Im guessing they got pressure from Hollywood or something

I know a few who have gotten caught, and I don't use it anymore, but my friend uses Usenet and gets me anything I want!

I know you're doing this in good faith, but just let me clarify some points that you made.

It is not illegal for them to "bust" a person for downloading. If they setup some sort of server, and you leeched files off of that server (via FTP, newsgroups, BT, whatever), they may log the information, and one day find a way to legally go after you.

They do not need to get the "full" file to charge you with copyright infringement. As long as they know the tracker contains valid information and you're uploading files that coincide with the tracker, they can prosecute you (this applies to BT). If they download a file from you running any type of server, and it does in fact contain copyrighted material, they can prosecute you.

There really isn't any such thing as an "illegal" file. By "illegal" you mean copyrighted.

like you wernt allowed to use the internet anymore?

Internet Blacklist is a reference with ISPs. The ISPs keep a track of this list and share it with each other. As a result you want be able to get an account with anyone.

Really depends on the ISP, Comcast loves to send out warning letters, Ive never seen one from SBC before.
