I too wondered what impact Bin Ladens death could transpire.
My wife didn't see it until I pointed out our mission in Afghanistan and military involvement. Harper received last minute air time others wouldn't get and slid in why our mission is important despite the lefts potestations.

Could mean something and in an election where .5% could make or break majority. . .

What reason is that? To bring "freedom"? To hunt terrorists? To get Bin Laden?

Got the third one done, the second one will never end, the first one is full of corruption and won't work unless we stay there for a hundred years.

Perfect time to call it a game and pull everyone out.

And I was "for" the war and loved bringing "freedom" to these people for years. Then I grew up...

Whoa! Even Mauril Bélanger feels threatened! They phoned me yesterday and today again to re-confim I'm going to vote. And it's not the Tories that worry them but the NDP. If he can fall, the orange crush is a sure thing.

Harper has long called already the end of the mission in September 2011 as far back as 2008.

Canada's mission was never to find terrorists. Historically we've always been involved in peace keeping missions. That's exactly what our people are doing in Afghanistan - acting as peace keepers until that countries stops sucking so bad.

I'm a lifetime Tory, but I've voted NDP this round. Two reasons

1) I would like to see the NDP get a shot. There are some areas where we need a real lefty government to make new regulations: insurance, cell phones, internet. I also feel our government services (especially health care) have been cut too low and we need to go back the other way for awhile.
2) My vote is wasted--last election the Tories won 75%+ in my riding, so I'm just wasting my time by showing up to the polls anyway.

I'm voting for Bob Rae this election - he's certain to be the next leader of the Liberals, and the more I read about him, the more I like.

Ray Days and photo radar...that's all that there is to say about Bob Ray. Bob Ray will never ever be elected in Ontario again no matter how much change he has done in recent years. The Liberals is fast becoming a fringe party by keeping on board people like Ray and Trudeau's son which they are pushing. Bob Ray as leader would ensure that the Liberals concede never governing again.

That's basically my feeling as well. There's about 0% chance the libs or NDP will win in my area, but voting for lib or NDP at least shows support. The vote is still counted. It will still go toward stats saying this percentage of Canadians do not like the current prime minister. I'll vote NDP because it's more of a "fuck you" vote than voting lib.

Read up on the reason Rae Days occurred and let me know if you truthfully still think A) they were a bad idea and B) they were Rae's fault. Seriously - I had to read up on the matter to change my mind about him as well.

Rae is pretty centrist and most of his positions mirror that. He was the guy who led the charge inside the Liberal party to maintain forces inside Afghanistan after 2011. Again, check up on his actual positions.

Photo radar is however wholly a cash grab.

1) its pretty amazing, but there's a lot of issues where only the NDP said things that were on people's minds - they were the only ones that really rallied against UBB, cell phone shenanigans etc. I'd love to see an opposition NDP smack down Rogers and Bell.

That would be pretty ballin. I voted for Harper last time, but he really needs to be kept in line. Having Harper win the election but have NDP as the official opposition would be just dandy

Haven't voted yet, but, really thinking about doing the same (my riding was also won by the conservatives with 75% of the vote in the last election).

Also remember, folks, that a vote for a losing candidate in your riding isn't wasted as it helps finance his/her party. This is important for the health of our parliamentary democracy. A reasonably level playing ground is better than having just one party with all the money.

This won't be true for long since Harper is phasing out party financing.

There were A LOT of young people at the poll. My parents noticed the same in their riding southeast of Quebec City. Good for the NDP, this!

I'm an old-school Trudeau Liberal so I don't mind the NDP, particularly in a minority government. Way better than a vindictive Harper majority.

Heard on TVA: some Quebec ridings have already reached voting rates of 60% with two hours still left to vote. Awesome!

Apparently the NDP are taking votes from the LPC and Greens. The Cons are also getting LPC votes, meaning they may win a majority.
