Cannot delete a virus

I am using AVG virus detector, and has discovered a virus DW.exe. It will not permit the removal. How can it be removed, and is it dangerous, or is there another free program that I can download.

If necessary, you can always boot into the recovery console to delete the file (no open handles this way).

If it's an XP machine, type:

openfiles /local on

Then reboot. After the reboot, you can use the command OPENFILES to list all the open handles on your machine. You can then use the tool to delete the handle so you can then delete the file.

Can also use a tool from http://www.sysinternals.com called handleex.exe.

That will do it. let it DL, it's ok, the files are erased after the online scan.
