Can't access Hard drive

i have windows 7 ultimate. i am trying to save some files for my friend from her hard drive. so i plug the sata drive up to my computer. loaded windows and windows sees its there. i go to computer, manage, disk management and that knows its there as well. in disk management i go to properties for that hard drive it shows how much free space there is and used space. when i go to my computer it shows the drive but shows 0 for free space and used space and tells me Location not available.

Also while in disk management if i try to change the security it goes through the whole hard drive and shows it processing files so they are there.

What am i missing?? any help appreciate it she has important pics and stuff on there thank you

Why are you doing this? Was there already a problem with her hard drive?

yes there was a problem with the hard drive. it was running windows 7 as well, once windows loads up shortly after the blue screen of death pops up. so i am trying to get pictures and such that she had on there.

i tried to install that take permission thing and i am thinking that is what is wrong but it did not help. after installing into the registery it didn't give me the take control menu item like it said it's supposed to.
