Can't turn on PC!!

specs: i7 920 w/ V8 cooler, asus P6T Deluxe, Corsair 750W

The new build has been running strong for a month now. Then today, I Press the power button, fans start to spin for a 1/2 second, then off everything turned off. I'm thinking it's either mobo/psu/cpu. Here is what I've tried.

- unplugged all usb devices, video card, etc
- unplugged all connections (except cpu pw, mobo pw)
- resetting the motherboard screws

Can't seem to find any issues? Please help

Unplug all connectors and replug them in. To check the PSU unplug it from the system only leaving a few fans pluuged in. Take a metal paper clip and incert it in with the green and one of the black pins on the 24pin main connector. If the PSU doesn't power on the the PSU is the problem. If it powers up fine then test the voltages with a DMM on one of the molex connectors and make sure they are reading within +/- 5% of there exspected voltages. If that all checks out then your motherboard is bad.

From your description it sounds to be a power problem, since a motherboard being broken wouldn't cause this behavior (in my experience). Additionally, given that this is a new build, I wouldn't suspect your motherboard since it has been working for a month; most little shorts and DOA condensers would have raised their ugly heads long ago. Either you've got a short someplace else; i.e. poorly seated cable or exposed metal wire touching something, or your PSU is shot. Check the condition of all connectors for loose wires and bad contacts; re-seat everything and try again. If this doesn't work you need to test your PSU, the fastest way is to use another PSU that you know works. If you don't have another PSU, then be mindful that even if the voltages look OK to a multimeter, your PSU may still not be able to hold the voltages under a heavy load, this is much harder to diagnose; so I strongly recommend you do what you can to get another PSU if you need to go this far.

Tried the paper clip trick w/ the PSU outside the case. Fan on the PSU started to spin for a 1/2 sec then it shut off w/ an odd sound. I'm going to try the fans plugged in to the PSU w/ the paper clip trick when I get home, but I'm rather sure this is the PSU.

I'm going back to Antec PSUs. My old box has an Antec PSU thats been running for 10 years now go figure.

Contact Corsair. They should have no problem offering a replacement. Don't let one bad PSU throw you off Corsair. Even the best manufactures still have problem units that get out.
