I wonder what Intel think of DFI releasing Canterwood specs 4 months before it's official release?

Probably not much.

Actually, the specs are pretty much what I expect. It's the performance I am more interested in.

I see it supports ECC memory. Do you see ECC as being of any importance where the board is combining the two channels to make a 128-bit path like that, as a safeguard?

Why no 64bit pci ?

The biggest bottleneck is disk i/o.

What do you need 64-bit PCI for?

Both the regular IDE Controllers and SATA Controllers have their own dedicated connection back to ICH5 and then 266MB/s AHA to the MCH. They do not sit on the PCI Bus.

Probably has the same memory controller as granite bay or a modified version of. Hence the ecc support since gb is supposed to be a workstation chipset.

The memory controller that Granite Bay uses is the same one used in Plumas (E7500) and Placer (E7505). Springdale/Canterwood's (i865/i875) memory controller is a new design based upon the Brookdale-G (i845G) memory controller. Canterwood is basically Springdale with no gfx, ECC support, and turbo mode enabled.

Because you can't use a 64bit scsi raid in this setup.

You can't take advantage of 15000rpm scsi drives...

Is ide better than multiple 15k scsi drives ?

Jose
