Car buying

I don't get it... I started out with a price limit of 22,400 (just enough for a VW beetle) then, all the sudden it drops to 10,000. I'm ok with that, I can get a nice 3000GT for that. And all of the sudden, I don't have 10,000 anymore! I have a meager $2,000. Can you believe that? Anyway...

Mom & Dad found a $2000 '91 eclipse, sohc, ~100hp, ugly-as-poupou gray exterior, no cd player, needs air conditioner, needs door to be reset (it's offcentered), the window doesn't close right all the time, screws are missing, a few scratches neer the door.
It would take about $2500+ to fix all this, and paint it a new color. They are fine with paying $2500 to fix/paint it though.

Now, for $5500, I could get a '94 Mistu 3000GT, which is in perfect condition, white exterior, v-6 222hp. I would be so happy with this car, as opposed to the eclipse... But they don't see why they would pay 5500 for the 3000gt, when they can pay a final price of 4500 for the eclipse, which is 3 years older, and doesn't look near as nice, and is half as powerful...

Man, it sucks...

Yeah first car...

I just don't see why it went from 22,000 spending limit, to 2000 all the sudden...

so now I get to drive around in an almost-junker.

to tell you the truth, id look at some 93-96 American cars, you can get them for pretty cheap, and theyll usually still be clean, and run pretty well.

$22,000 to $2,000..... someone was really deluded here!

I can get a nice 3000GT for that

Dont buy that! That car will cost thousands a year to keep on the road. I know, I bought a used Porshe once.

Mom would be paying the insurance, it would be under her name, with my name on the policy. That way I get cheap insurance on even a 3000GT (around $1400-$2000 a year) and I just pay her back for it.

The car I get MUST be rounded off, no big butt ugly blocky cars.

well....I think your parents are nuts saying or even mentioning that they would buy a new car for your first car, 2nd, your parents have to be nuts to give a first car with 222 HP, 3rd, your parents are nuts for getting you a car that is probably a road hazard. They are just worried that's all. They do not want tp spend $5000 on something that most teens will crash. Sure, you don't think you will be in an accident an dyou think you are a safe driver, but that is what I thought. That said...my first car was a 93 Eclipse GS. It was nice, but I totaled it:frown:.

Do you work Don? How old are you again? Sure your parents are picking up the insurance tab, but Im telling you 'brotha the maintenance on that 3000 will kill your a!!. To start, it has 17 inch wheels which are probably Z rated. If you race around, and you will, those tires arent going to last you more than 9 months if even that long. Get the phone book out and price a set of 17inch tires for that car. Something close to $700 im guessing.

I like the eclipse alright, but I hate knowing I have to fix it up nice for so much $$, if it was already a good color, like red or black, I wouldn't mind so much. But it's the ugliest color gray EvEr... And if it didn't have so many minor problems with it...

$2500? How much mileage? I paid $3300 for mine and it had 97k on it and was in really good condition. I think that car cost too much once you think about the condition and all. Anyways...trust your mom and dad. I remember i did not want the Eclipse when my mom bought it, but I fell in love with it and now I miss it

For that amount of cash, I think I'd just get a high milage V6 Chevy Beretta. Sort of *cough* sporty, pretty damn cheap to maintain, and are next to impossible to kill.

3000GT's are horrible cars... my friend had one and I will NEVER buy one unless its a VR-4. Waste of time and money otherwise.

I don't know what I'd eventually set in on, but It could be alot worse for you. Imagine driving a '88 Dodge Aries K car. :Q

oh i LOVE, just absolutely LOVE, the eclipse for how it drives. But I hate giving 2000$ to the dealer, when I know it'll cost me ~1000$ without paint job, to fix the minor things. It doesn't even have a cd-player for crying out loud It has about 138,000 miles on it I believe. I have no clue if he has done a tune-up or anything on it yet either... Need to ask...

If mom or dad would simply get the one from Jacksonville florida for 1800$, which has no problems to speak of, I wouldn't have any problem with it really. At least it's not gray, although it's an ugly maroon color...

Beretta's are UGLY, but they'd be good for the money.

As for the civic '93-'94, no one in a 200 mile radius that I know of, has one... I wanted a '96 civic for ~10 grand. And I must have an automatic transmition, and it must be a 2 door.
Civic's are nice cars, but older than '93 I wouldn't have one.

Another "sleeper" car would be an early 90's Dodge Spirit R/T. Those things MOVED! Insurance should be very cheap, and from I've heard they are pretty reliable and fairly easy to work on.

Kinda sucks you went from $22k to $2k, but free is very good.

I'm probably going to buy a car next week myself. I am looking to spend no more than $1000-1500. Pretty sweet, eh? I'll only drive about 50-100miles/week, plus I don't give a damn what I drive in until I have some cash stockpiled.

When I was younger and driving parent's vehicles I got spoiled. Its tough going from a $40k car to a $2500 car but thats what happens. Just be glad they're still buying this one for you.
