So i have a Honda accord and i just put two 12" subs in the back 1200 watts. I am running a 500 watt amp bridging them. I just put two kicker 6 1/2 in the doors and the rear is Sony xploids on the seat. Went i run everything my lights flicker. I have a old battery from 08. I want to fix that so i can evenually get a 1100 watt amp and some tweeters. What kind of set up do i need to do or the next step i should do. My deck is also like 5 year s old its 45 by 4. Any advice will taken. Thanks

Hi and welcome to Anandtech! It sounds like you need to add a capacitor to your system. Doing so will stop the flicker in your lights. You could also try a new battery with more amps than your current one. It could also be your current battery as it is over 7 years old. I would replace it with one with more amperage, and then see if the lights still flicker.

Capacitors can help, but they are more of a band-aid fix. If the battery is that old, replacing it with a newer one may also help, and I would probably recommend it before a cap (after all, you are going to need a new battery anyway - probably sooner than later)

One of the best, cheapest upgrades you can do is known as the "big three" upgrade. This includes upgrading the power cables between:

1) Engine ground and chassis ground
2) Battery ground terminal to chassis ground
3) Alternator positive output to battery positive terminal

Upgrade these to at least some good 8ga cable, make sure you bolt the grounds tightly to clean paint free metal, and you should see a significant difference. The stock cables for these wires are often tiny 10 or 12 ga wires that can act as a bottleneck for whole system.

If you replace the battery and upgrade the cables and still have a lot of flickering, then install a capacitor.

Ok so just for an update on the system sorry it took me so long to give one i forgot the website. So the first thing I did was getting the new battery which is the Duralast Platinum battery (which is the gel) I know i should of just spent like $15 more to get the yellow top but i was in a rush and didnt think. Then i reran the Alternator + wire. The battery alone made a huge difference and the larger wire i think help the constant hit and stopping the rpms jumping. Except if i'm at a railroad crossing and just idling like for 10 mins with it hitting hard. (which happened the other day). But im currently looking and researching the capacitors. Just wondering if yall know any decent kind that not to expense I'm not trying to have a 3000 system just something that is nice to hear and to be noticed a little(which the other day this woman got out of her car at a stop light and told me to stop shaking her car lol) So any ideas on a decent capacitor? And thanks for all the help so far it all has made a big improvement!
