I don't know if running a demanding game will stress the power supply more. If yours works out I may just buy the video card like you did and hold back on upgrading the PSU. Keep me posted please.

Oh,one more question. On the box does it state the minimum wattage for a power supply?

The 7600GT is not a very demanding card, but you are correct in that when a game is running, the graphics card demands more juice from the PSU than when it is sitting idle or if you're playing minesweeper. Minimum wattage for a power supply is only a factor if you've got a really new, big, hungry graphics card (or a really old weak PSU); equally as important is the current (amps) delivered to the graphics card on the 12V rail.

Just get a 7600gt and stick it in there. Your psu would be fine for it

Not as cheap plan:

Get a 7900gs or a x1950PRO and a quality 350-400 watt psu from newegg.

To actually demonstrate this to customers, I put a 8800GTX into a PC running an older 'decent' quality 300W PSU. You can do any office type taks you want, stable as can be. But trying to play oblivion results in black screen hard crash reboot.

Hopefully for Huai and me the 7600GT is less power hungry than the 8800GTX. If I have any problem I will get a new PSU.
Would turning the graphic options down in a demanding game lessen the chance of a hard crash?

I had a DELL 250 watt psu and ran my 7800gs in there. The 7800gs has the same power draw as the 7900gt. The dell 305watt psu should handle the 7600gt easily. If I were you I'd get a 7900gs. It's faster and requires only a little more power then the 7600gt .

That is an excellent reference page. I bookmarked it. Looks like the 7600 GT consumes only 36W.

Interesting and confusing to me is the link to the OuterVison eXtreme Power Supply Calculator which turned up a suggested power supply for my system at 332 watts. I don't get it. The graphics card only draws 36w and I have a simple system. The EVGA card site mentions a 350w PS as minimum. ???

Is my CD/DVD burner, USB printer and scanner, front card reader, modem, etc. using power if not turned on or being used?

Is the onboard nVidia 6150LE using juice if I am using a PCI-E card? I don't see anywhere in my BIOS to turn it off unless there is a jumper on the mother board.
