horseshit. let me see you take ten 10-day vacations next year.

unlimited vacation = you aint got a job

It exists. I'm surprised too, but I've had interviews where that's been offered. Of course there are unspoken catches to it. You obviously can't abuse it and take 3 months off. It's not truly unlimited.

If you haven't heard of it, it just doesn't exist in your industry.

OP - if this is a start-up/fast growing small company, are you also being offered a stock compensation package?

LOL. And came in today at 9:45am and plan to leave by 5pm with a hour lunch and 15 minute nap in one of our quiet rooms.

Did you buy your Macbook Air with the credit card you don't pay? And yes, to diverge other threads, having a Masters in Business Adminstration and a Facebook account landed me this position.

you sound like a very unproductive janitor. my bills are almost paid off. i am not a thief. anyway, no more derailing this thread, please? you are wasting everyone's time.

clean up on aisle 6!

Id ask for the US standard of at least 2 weeks vacation, but id probably take the new job either way given what info youve provided.

OP, do you get personal/sick days along with that 1 week of vacation?

I had a position where I had 1 week of vacation and 1 week of personal days on the first year. It's basically 2 weeks vacation. Then 3 weeks the next year..

What industry do you work in? Depending on your salary, +5% isn't that much of a gain. With losing 2 weeks of vacation and only gaining 5%, I wouldn't take it.

Of course if you believe the environment and stress level is better, maybe it's worth it to you..

Industry is IT. I'll try and negotiate about the vacation time. As mentioned above, when you factor in the lack of constant overtime, the pay increase is more closer to 15 - 20% since I'd be back to a 40 hr. work week. Not sure about the stock compensation.

odds are they will just start ramping up your hours at the new job once they've got you on board.

so you have to work early mornings and weekends to make up for vacation? unlimited vacation = frowned upon = fired. typical of you to resort to personal attacks as it shows the true nature of your character. i would not be surprised if you are a janitor at walmart. i has MBA fyi

i has MBA are you an LOLCAT or something?

Just kidding it just struck me as funny the way you said that.

how solid are you on the guarenteed only 40 hour work week? salary is still salary and when shit hits the fan, or the latest project gets a last second change, someone is going to either be asked to work more or stay longer to get it done..

That is understandable. But it sounds like, at his current job, they are working 10hr days all week, every week. I don't understand why he would put up with that, but maybe thats just me...

5% pay increase is negligible given the lack of vacation time. I would stay at current position unless the benefits are SUBSTANTIALLY better at job 2.

I get about 7 weeks of annual leave and 2.5 weeks of sick pay a year.

If I tried to switch to only 1 week of time off a year, I'd probably be searching for a new job unless the pay was six figures. I'd stick with the current job because benefits are more valuable than money if it's only a 5% raise with more risk.

Go with the 8hr/day job. Working 10 hour days suck! You come home and have just about 3-4 hours to do anything meaningful.
