case fan connection on motherboard

my intel dh57jg motherboard has 4 pin for the chasis fan, but the chasis fan has only 3 pins on it.

can I put that on any 3 pins on the motherboard, either leaving the first or last one, or is there an specific way I need to connect?

I bet that the connector on the motherboard, has an plastic pin, that the 3 Pin plug ,
gets in it , by only one way ...

If this plastic is broken , then take a picture and show it to us , so to help more.

no the plastic is not broken, the fan has a 3 pin connector only but the motherboard has 4 pins...i will try to load some pics this evening.

• The fans are on when the board is in the ACPI S0 or S1 state.
• The fans are off when the computer is in the ACPI S3, S4, or S5 state.

so I can leave one pin and connect the 3 pin on the mother board and should be ok. doesnt matter which pin I leave correct??

Not quite correct. Three of the wires/pins deliver 12V, ground, and speed reading. Your fan needs those. The fourth pin is for PWM control. There should be only one possibility to connect, as shown by kiriakos.

OK, my bad the 3 pin will go in one way only, the plastic is at the back as per the pic from Kiriakos.
