Case fan won't spin down

I just finished building my first system ...a gigabyte ga-7dxr. Everything works fine except the system case fan will not spin down when the operating system (win98se) goes into sleep mode. The monitor and hard drive shut down but the fan continues to hum at full speed. I left the system on all night to see if it would eventually spin down but it did not. Its a low wattage generic fan and I have plugged into the motherboard. Is this a motherboard problem, bios, or operating system? Any ideas. I guess as a last resort I would get one of those fans with the built-in sensor.

Which case fan, the one near the bottom front of the case or top rear under the PS? FWIW I just put together a Gigabyte 7IXA and before updating the bios putting the system into sleep mode would result in both case fans shutting down but the cpu and PS fans staying on. After upgrading the bios the rear case fan no longer shuts down. I think they did this because some people were plugging the cpu fan into the rear case fans' plug and shutting down the cpu fan by mistake.

Thanks for the reply. It is the rear case fan. From your experience with gigabyte it does sound like a bios issue.

from my limited experience in this area, i would try to go into your setup when the computer first boots up there should be a option about fans always running or not

can u control ur case fans if say u have them hooked up to ur enermax power supply with an Asus A7V?
