Catalyst 3.8 users beware!!!!!!

Something is definately wrong here. If you are using the Cat 3.8 you better pull it out fast until more info is gathered.

Not trying to be first here or sensationalize. I scanned the first couple of pages in video and saw nothing. I just read about this in another forum today, I had no idea and just want to make sure the word gets around to save people the possibility of ruined hardware.

A sticky is definately in order.

Gee, too bad this much effort and cooperation aren't used to actually help people around here anymore! I guess sarcasm, criticism and misplaced humor are the rule these days. I come into Anandtech less and less frequently these days, now I am reminded why.

This used to be a fine place to learn and share information, now it seems more like a kiddie place to flame, insult and act indecent. No, this thread isn't a big deal, but many others are obnoxious to say the least. I still can't figure out why the Mods locked the thread about changing the ID on a Geforce4 card. A couple of years ago it was big news to be able to do the same with a Geforce2, the motives were never questioned. Back in the good ole days it seemed like there was a friendly competition to see who could help people first, now it is who can be rude first. Well there are greener pastures out there.....

rogue1979 calm down just light humour ,now if you want serious info on the 3.8 problems go over to the Rage3D forum,there`s a big thread on the subject.ATi have officially said that`s there`s no problem with the 3.8 drivers so it comes down to if you believe them or not,I can only speak for myself & say I`ve been using them since day one and have had 0 problems.

I think you have selective memory. There were trolls back in the "good ole days" just as there are now. And there were reposts of reposts of reposts (as this thread is). Did everytime someone reposted something for the 10th time people say "gee buddy. I'm sorry to say this was a repost. It was a nice gesture but we've covered this already" ?

Of course not! This issue is a falsehood and has been beaten to death.

Some of the Cat 3.8 stuff may be false but my Radeon 7000 video has been distorting and otherwise flaking out since I upped to 3.8. I've gone back to 3.7 and thus far, no problems. And I even upped my refresh rate back to 85 again and still no problems - I had been trying to go as low as 60 with the 3.8s and still got distortion to the point I eventually would have to reboot.
And I don't OC my video or use any graphic intensive apps - I noticed the distortion all the time in Netscape 7.1 after a short period of surfing.
. I'll have to run it a while longer to see what happens. I was also unable to run my Hollywood Plus DVD decoder card while the 3.8 drivers were in place. I'll put it back in soon and see if it works OK and report back here.

Seems like it might have been that I failed to protect the right portions of upper memory on the emm386 line in my Config.Sys file as ver.3.7 started to get the same distortions too. I haven't had any of that distortion since I fixed that line and have gone back to 3.8. So far so good.

Wow, that sure set you off, eh? I'm sure your post was made with good intentions but the truth is it's been posted at least 5 times in the past month or so. On top of that I believe the number of people having problems with the 3.8 Cats is a pretty low percentage. I think the "silent majority" of those running the 3.8's fine are out there - just quiet.

edit: Oh, since my company was just purchased, if I happen to lose my job I'm blaming it on the 3.8 Cat's!
