Heh - I updated from my latest "Omega" driver (x800 GTO) to the 7.12s and now my newly-received Orange Box games can't find any D3D devices.

Why would you need to upgrade the x800 to the 7.12 drivers to begin with?

Episode 1 kept crashing randomly after 1-3 minutes, so I thought I'd update to see if that helped.

So far, I managed to play and complete Portal (first thing I tried,) but nothing else seems to work for me.

was that question really needed? Seriously? , bug fixes? the fact that newer game titles require updates only the 7.9 to 7.12 range can provide, and with the current state of the drivers, you must decide play new games, or old games with 7.12 I can't play new or old. Good game engines and games like halflife2 and COD 4 run and look great on x800 hardware. I'm talking 30+ fps

AMD seriously needs to just go public with there horrid driver problems we approach 6 months since a solid driver was out for all supported card ranges. Even funnier is the fact that there own forums on purpose or not are down at game.amd.com doh doh doh!!

Way to go upper management!

Yeah, my girlfriend's X800XT PE is able to max out Call of Duty 4 and HL 2 EP2 at 1024x768, with 4x FSAA and 16x AF, not bad for a 3 years old card. I wish all cards would have the same longetivity like this card.

Yeah, the AMD forums are broken.

It's not like nvidia makes sure their new drivers work well with old hardware either though, on my old 6800 I had to stick with 80s or 90s forceware to be useable. Otherwise, there'd be a number of stability and compatibility issues. With an old card, you really should just use older drivers.

Yeah pretty much. My x800 works best with older drives. Newer ones makes it heat up by 20c for some reason..

Last few posts are getting off the topic I brought up, AGP cards as a whole are affected as well as some PCI-E cards, so this is not a question of old hardware being affected only, its AGP across the board and some PCI-E setups.

Would it be silly of me to mention that this isn't actually your topic? lol

I thought I read posts on rage3d.com forums that some AGP boxes were working fine with 7.12 or haven't been subject to any of the problems. If the problem is not affecting all AGP users, the logical thing to do is to post your rig and problem descriptions to support.ati.com (or whatever your vendor is) so that the problem(s) can be isolated.

With these new drivers, v-sync is broken in DX10 mode w/ Hellgate: London.

Was it working in Catalyst 7.11?

It is pretty funny. Someone hijacks the thread, and gets upset when others do the same to him.

I felt making a new thread would be spam / redundant

I wasnt angry, just pointing out information that was "overlooked"
