Hi martianmisfit,

What do you mean you can't find the Catalyst Control Center anywhere? Is this after you have installed the CCC? If it installed INcorrectly then it would have displayed a message at the end of the installation. Did you install the CCC through the file downloadable from AMD that contains ONLY the CCC? The instructions I gave were in relation to installing the hotfix if you don't need the DX10 Crossfire performance or AGP compatibility It's probably better off installing just the official 8.1's.

i'm running an HIS 2600XT 512MB AGP.

i redid everything you stated and this time only installed the hotfix, rebooted and then installed the CCC 8.1 only and rebooted and no Catalyst Control Center???

i only see CIM - Catalyst Install Manager

i don't like the fact that i'm actually losing fps. i updated to 8.1 in hope that is would stop the random crashes in Team Fortress 2 due to the ATI drivers from 7.12. and the fact that for some reason it can't handle Crysis or COD4 at full screen with low settings.

i'm gonna go try out the other games and see what improved.

Well if you cannot access the CCC perhaps it's running preprogrammed settings to the detriment of your FPS in which case you need to get access to the CCC to change that. So I take it right clicking the Desktop there is no CCC in the window? What about right click desktop > Personalization > Display Settings > Advanced Settings > Catalyst? i am assuming you are running Vista.

Is there a folder named '8-1_vista32-64_ccc_lang1_57726' under c:/>ATI>Support? Do you have the latest windows updates (namely the latest .NET service packs and patches)?

folder is there. windows up to date.
i have .NET 1.1 + 1.1 hotfix + 3.5

even when i check the programs listed under the control panel
it only list ATI Catalyst Install Manager. no CCC.

Hmm thats an odd problem I have never come across, all else I can think of is perhaps a corrupt download, you could try installing the CCC via the 8.1 all in one package and select ONLY to install the CCC component from that package and see if it works. Perhaps try an install directly from the folder listed above via the ATI setup. Its still the same problem after a run from Driversweeper?

i ran the DriveSweeper & CCleaner.
which deleted all my favorite servers from my STEAM games

i'll give the suite a shot and run only the CCC and see what happens.
i'm crashing out so i'll do it later on today and post what happens.

doesn't CCC require .Net 2.0?

CCC does need .Net 2.0 to run, or it will either not open correctly or will have issues.

no luck.

apparently when i try to install the Catalyst 8.1 suite it does not give me the option to select catalyst control center. as for installing .NET 2.0 the application tells me it's not compatible with vista. upon searching online i came to find that vista already comes preloaded with .NET 2.0. so why is the ccc suite installer not recognizing it?

Try downloading the CCC without drivers(so not the full package) and try installing that.

The "hotfix" appears to be a separate display driver that is non WHQL certified. My "guess" would be that one would install the "hotfix" then the CCP individual (not the suite) after one reboots.

Hurray for subpar AGP support since the Cat 7.7(or whichever version the strange issues with AGP cards started).

I have an X1600 Pro AGP. I first installed the full 8.1 + CCC, and the D3D tests failed. I then installed the hotfix overtop the existing installation, and D3D works properly now. About to do the same on my HTPC with a 2600 Pro HD.

Hellgate: London crashes whenever I try to run it. it worked with the previous 7-12 drivers, but fps was very poor.

I have a Radeon X1950 Pro.

WoW seems to work fine but I didn't stay around long enough to really give it a good test.

I'm considering a 3870x2 card when they are released, but will only pull the trigger if they have working linux drivers within a month of its release.

I should rephrase, I'll seriously consider the 3870x2 if it has linux drivers for it. There will eventually be Catalysts for the 3000 series Radeons, its only a matter of time.

I get startup problem with these drivers

MMLoadDrv.exe crashes on 9/10 reboot. This is on Vista 32-bit. I googled the exe name i guess there is a couple others with the same problem. I've tried to uninstall and re-install and it still gives me the same problem. I guess i'll go back a driver number. On the bright side games showed no problems just the stupied start crash.

I'm going to have to go back to the 7.12s. I just loaded up The Witcher to find that all outdoor shadows seem to be bottomless black patches and that all interior areas that are off the ground floor display everything. What I mean by that is, the floor appears as blackness, but I can see the ground floor and character wandering around. Its actually fairly trippy. This occurred in some caves and crypts under the 7.12s, but never outside like this.

Edit - Odd, every time I try to install the 7.12s, Vista won't see the driver. Every reboot comes up with an error that the ATI driver is not installed or not functioning. Even tried using Driver Cleaner, still didn't work. 8.1 worked on the first go. Might have to trouble shoot The Witcher instead to see if I can get that working.

X1950XT PCIe (forgot i removed my sig with all the parts lol)

Thanks for the suggestion, but i have never found the need to use a driver sweeper before from the many different video card i've owned, unless of coarse during the switching sides part and even then most of the time it works after an uninstall of the old drivers.

But if it still gives me the errors with 7.12 then i will try the driver cleaner.

*edit* 7.12 work perfect after a complete uninstall of 8.1's. I wonder if there was something updated in the .Net program that isn't compatible with my version of .Net framework. I've downloaded the newest version of the framework from MS site but it states i am fully updated and will not install anything.. so who knows.
