Ok I just upgraded my mobo from an old MSI to a A7N8X Deluxe and when I install my CD drives they wont show up in My Computer only in the BIOS. And to me it seems that they are being read as Hard Drives? Ive checked all connections and even tried several different ways of connecting them but nothing works. I have all jumpers set right but still nothing. I have now formatted my HD from Dos in hopes of making it work but now Its even more difficult. Is there something Im missing like in the BIOS or something cause this really sucks. I see all of these settings I can change but dont understand what most of them mean like all this IRQ Bullsh*t. Someone please help all I wanna do is play my damn games. The manuals dont help for sh*t either all it says is , you can change this you can change that but does not say the effect of changing those settings.

In general, if you can't see your cd/dvd in windows it is a problem with the parent device, which would be the ide controller. Is the controller showing up ok in the device manager? Have you installed the proper drivers for the chipset?

Have you reinstalled Windows? If not, then you don't have the correct drivers (in this case IDE drivers) for your new mobo. Reinstall Windows and everything should work. Hopefully you made backups before you installed the new mobo, or you may lose some data ...

The CD drives missing might be because you have Nero or other CD burning software installed.

Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry
key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Then reboot.

Try going into the BIOS to see if it is auto detected.

Also, which IDE channel is it hooked up to? Do you have the Master/Slave settings correct?

If you're running Windows XP, try running the Add New Hardware Wizard.
