CDROM Not Recognized in Windows Explorer

I just reformatted and reinstalled my harddrive. Bios recognizes the cdrom, which is the master to an internal zip drive. I had the cdrom working by installing the device driver in config.sys, and also setting the himem device, but the zip drive didn't work. Then I commented out both in config.sys and the zip drive now works, but not the cdrom.

No problems are noticed for either in device manager.

I'd try reversing the process and make the zip the master. Might want to try a different cable, too. You definitely should not need to add any device drivers nor entries in config.sys/autoexec to get either device working. Check the jumpers on both drives, too.

Thanks for your response. I should mention that before I reformatted the harddrive the cdrom and the zip drive both worked fine, with the CDROM being the secondary master and the zip drive being the secondary slave. I'm using Window 98 (First Edition).

Now I go into Device Manager to examine the CDROM Drive, which is not shown in Windows Explorer. It first states that the device is working fine. Then I update the driver to what appears to be a more recent driver (which I copied from my other machine). Then it says that "this device has a problem, but Windows cannot determine what the problem is."

Any thoughts?
