Very fast Lite-On drives at newEgg. Only cost about $55. Bought one for my brother, no problems whatsoever. More user experiences available at newEgg's website.

Sony died in 9 months
HP exchanged 3 times took back the 4th and got...
Hi-val lasted 1 year and had problems with copy protection trying to play with the original disks even!
got a no-name Acer built drive lasted for a while till the newer copy protections wouldn't work on this drive either

Got a Lite-on now Best Drive I've had yet! quick, quiet, and inexpensive! Copies and plays everything I throw at it. I've burned 250+ disks with it so far, and not a coaster in the bunch!

I also recommend newegg.com

i was just wondering, if you people had unlimited money, would you rather buy a plextor drive or a liteon?

Simple, Yamaha.

I'd go with an ASUS 3212a 32x12x40 CDR/RW. I love mine. Just make sure you can write in RAW DAO 96 mode in order to copy SafeDisc 2 copy protection.

Y'know, I think I'd still get a Lite-On. I like Plextors a lot, but I don't believe they are able to burn as many different copy-protected CD's as Lite-Ons. Plus, I ABSOLUTELY HATE EZ CD Creator. Nero is the best, hands down.

Oh, and to Goi, the only reason that you would possibly consider Yamaha over either of these is because of that T@2 thing that they do, and even though I could have fun with that as my extra drive, there's no way I'd choose it as my sole CDRW. Other than that technology (which is useless when you use up the entire CD with data like I do), the drives are inferior.

Why do you say they are "inferior"? Yamaha is known to make the best audio duplications, with their proprietary technology that reduces jitter induced errors when burning. While they're not the speed demons, they have the quality where it counts.

Another vote for Lite-on. I love the older Plextor that I have. 3 years and still running like new. But for the price, the lite-on is a winner.

I will NEVER, repeat NEVER, by a Yamaha anything ever again. I spent top dollar on a 4416s back when, and it was the biggest POS I've ever owned. A few friends had the same problems I did. Dead within months. Never again.

Well, I guess my dad must be lucky then. His 4416 SCSI drive is still working fine.

Almost everyone loves Liteon.
My Pioneer DVD drive started dying recently - got a Liteon DVD drive; I also have a Liteon 40x12x48x CD-RW drive. Both work quite well.
A sidenote on Yamaha burners - I had an 8x8x24 drive from them; the only reason I upgraded was that I wanted more speed. The drive worked just fine all the time I had it.

I did just buy a TDK, it seems nice. Gotta love the blue tray. Can't say much for quality over time yet. I did have a mitsumi 4x burner for about 3 years before this. That thing was solid as a brick.

Yet another vote for Lite-ON.....Traxdata & Ceydyne (erm spelling) branded drives tend to be Lite-ON drives too!

I have had nothing but Acer and I dont have any of the problems people talked about in the past. Mine have all ran great and burn awesome! I havent burned a coaster yet except for the ones that I purposely did. Such as music titles that I really dont like.. Just make sure you get one with a warranty. That is all the advice I can give...
