I just bought a sony 24/12/40x cdrw drive from OD to replace my dead IOmega 12x drive. Everytime i try to burn something everything goes as normal but i noticed the LED on the drive blinks on and off for about 2 secs on and 2 secs off. The progress meter still moves while the light is off and when the cd completes, it is not readable. By looking at the bottom of the cd it looks written so its pretty much a coaster. I used cdrwin, clonecd and nero and all say finished successfully but all are not readable. I noticed during the burn that my HD LED goes crazy meaning it seems like the HD is constatly being read. I tried using my roommates' LiteOn 24x which has the same problem on my comp. I have tried swapping mobo's from a a7v133 to a MSI k7t turbo-r. I use two maxtor 20 GB 7200 rpm HD's in Raid-0 with the onboard raid. This occurs in my dual boot win98 and win2k. I'm thinking its something with my HD's but I would think that the raid is fast enough.

RAID ISNT any faster for reading, it may be a little slower.
RAID is only faster in writing

try to set the speed at 12x, then slowly increase it.

have you tried reading the CDs on your roomates computer?

Can you read the CDR in the burner itself? The on-off burning LED is normal for many burners. That's the way mine work.

i tried reading the cd in my burner, another burner, a dvd drive and a regular cdrom. They all can open the cd but shows no files. Plus the cd is always labeled Cd. The computer also indicates how much spaced is used on the cd but can't read anything.

I would suggest to possibly try another type of cd-r (TDK, Memorex, etc) , then try removing your cd-rw software (Roxio, NERO) and reinstalling it, if the issue persists I would contact the manufacturer of the drive as it is most likely a bad drive.
