Changing IP Address

I have Verizon DSL and..

I know how to change my local ip address via my routers access page in a web browser.

As for changing my internet ip address, is there anyway I can do this?
I talked to Verizon but they just recommended doing the local Ip thing ..now I realize that I need to change my INTERNET IP address.

Anyone got any ideas on how to do this easily? I have heard the command prompt way doesnt really work?

You cannot change your IP address. It is assigned out of a block of IP addresses that your ISP owns.

For the life of me I cannot think of a good reason that you would WANT to change your ip address on the net, unless you've been doing things that perhaps you shouldn't have been.

Would you care to elaborate on why your IP address needs to be changed?

For most people, their IP's change everytime their router logs. (Power recycle or cable disconnect.) Sometimes they will change when the old IP expires. Sometimes when the old one expires, they same IP address is re-issued.

You can request a static IP, but those cost extra. Even then, you can't request a specific IP address.

WikiPedia says my IP is banned, yet I have never edited on there before so it should not be.

Call Verizon and have them fix it. It is not really your IP per se.
If it really is banned, then maybe they can find out why it was
and by who. Then it can be unbanned. You can also email
the admin of whatever web site is banning you. They can remove
the ban.
