Changing my MOBO... help

I curently have a Soyo 5ehm w/ an amd K6-6 500, and Win2000. I am changing to an EPOX MVP3GM-5 with a AMD K6-III+ 450.
Do I need to change anything on the OS?? I think I just need to un-install the drivers from the old board, and then reinstal the new ones with the new mobo and cpu... what do ya think?

I am not in the mood for a little "Format C:"

also, anyone ever overclocked with this combo (mobo\cpu) I have heard i can get up to 616 khz?? thanks for your input

you can try it, im not familar with your board but if the chipsets are from the same company you have realy good odds, if not it still may work. boot up with the new stuff and let windows do its thing, you'll probably be asked to reboot a few times. if you have problems go into safe mode. worst comes to worst do the reformat.
my fic 2013 died on me a month ago, so i decided it was time to get a t-bird. so i went to the local shop and got a 750 and an epox 8kta, threw it all in and went for the afforementioned plan, i never even saw safe mode. this was all with windows 98. you'll never know untel you try

Swapped my Soyo 5ehm for an Aopen ax59pro. Wires got a little crossed on networking but everything else works fine. My 450+ is rock stable @550(2.05v). Good luck!

The boards use a similar chipset. Both use the VIA MVP3 north bridge - the south bridge is different, with the old 586B on the Soyo and the modern 596B on the Epox.

You might have to reinstall the IDE drivers for UDMA66 support, but that's about all I'd expect to happen. You might still need to have your Windows CD handy (if you're running Windows, of course) - it might ask for a few drivers anyway.

I useually will reinstall that sweet os after I get a new motherboard. I've done it with out, but if your gamming I wouldn't reccomend it. Stuff seems to fall on it's face.

Yeah, I've hit the same thing before. It seems to work fine for things like wordprocessing and internet, but anything really core taxing like a Directx game crashed until I did a clean install. I think it's the interaction of the new mobo and video card with the old video drivers and directx drivers. If you haven't bought the new mobo i'd skip the K6-3 and go right for a duron 650 - it's amazing

I just got done a similar thing. Except I went from MVP3 to KT133. Didn't have any real problems. I did however install cards one at a time with a bootup and detection in between. I recently went into safe mode and started wacky duplicate drivers and let the system reinstall them. I'm just afraid to wack the IDE controllers that I have duplicates for since they've given me problems with doing that in the past at work. I was only even able to get one out of the 3 deleted and therefore remain an incomplete unit and in dos compatability mode.
