Charity - Do you give?

Treak or Treat for Unisef, The United Way, and many others. Do you believe (or care) that your money really ends up with the poor? Or are you cynical and believe that this is just another way to take money from you. Many of the major charities have been investigated for fraud and embezzelment. What do you believe?

I give to charities - Salvation Army bell ringers at Christmas and I also give my change from grocery shopping to the Maui Humane Society. It isn't a lot, but it is something. I worry a little about whether or not it makes it to where it is supposed to. I figure if it doesn't, whoever steals it will eventually get what is coming to him/her.
I also give my old clothes to Salvation Army and I donate books and magazines to an abused woman's shelter.

Instead of giving money I volunteer. I volunteer at many local and national organizations: Project Open Hand, Salvation Army, soup kitchens around town, etc. I much prefer that than just giving money.

I don't give money but my time. I do volunteer work for several non-profit organizations in the area.

I offer my services to groups and organizations when I can. I will be serving up thanksgiving dinner.

I also volunteer at these same places, so I know what the money is doing.

I used to tutor kids on the weekends but now I have no time

I volunteer my time, and I give to charities that have a well-proven track record.

I also sponsor a child from the Dominican Republic through an organization called "Compassion International." Every single time they've been investigated, it's been found that over 75% of the money I give ends up in the hands of that little boy's parents, while only 9% goes to the organization.

I give money to charities all the time. Every check I get from my employer has about 25% withheld that goes to charity.
