Cheap digital camera with ZOOM?

I have a cool Kodak DC 200 that I really like, but I really want to be able to zoom..Any suggestions?

With some zooms on the camera, its not worth it. I think i'd rather step 3 steps foward instead of getting a zoom. Not to mention thats worth $100 in my pocket. 3x optical zoom, worthless in my book.

Avoid digital zoom. All that does is takes the picture and raises its resolution, same as doing it on the computer, it just decreases the quality. Optical zoom is the way to go.

My FujiFilm FinePix 1400 has 3x optical zoom (and 2x digital, but I don't like to use it) and it's damn cheap... less than $300 US now I think

10x optical is sweet

so is 20x (from a camcorder)...

anyway... mine is 5x optical =(

why people like digital camera?? I try a few of those ..and when I print the result with epson 780...still grainy...
my grand father old camera took better picture .
Well may be my inexperience using the camera,but point and click and print....surely not the way to go for digital camera....

The digital camera is perfect for my needs, I just take casual pictures and rarely have the need to print them out (then I'd need a serious camera like the Nikon Coolpix 990). I just take pictures and post 'em on the web for friends to see. No having to get them developed then scanned into images.

i think what brtspears2 means is that pretty much every zoom lens sucks, unless you're paying 4 figures for it. and many hardly get &quot;closer&quot; anyway, since they start at a pretty wide angle. a 30mm base with 2x zoom only gets you to 60mm, which isn't much closer than the eye's 50mm.
