lol, you obviously assume everyone cares since you're obviously an enthusiast. guess what? most people don't.

Dude, the stars in the sky are the same every night of your life. Is there anything else that you experience every single day and are still utterly clueless about? It's pathetic.

Edit - not noticing the bright planets and instead acknowledging them as stars is like not noticing a new mole on your forehead or if some ricer-ninja installed a big wing on your car.

There are some women that I'd like to experience every day... but those aren't celestial bodies.

don't you have some sheep you should be harassing down there in new zealand?

overcast tonight, yesterday, and the day before, haven't been able to see anything. i'd been watching jupiter creep across the sky the last month or so.

Probably giving it good to an old shaggy sheep with his little telescope in hand for such an event.

GA always seems to bring out / cause flames to start spewing out in most threads I see him / her post in. Just ignore this person.

When I looked up early in the evening tonight, Venus and Jupiter were really close to the moon. Was a nice sight to see.

Because I didn't have the faintest idea if they were visible elsewhere. If so, great.

Last night when I looked close to the horizon the moon was a very thin crescent and the two planets where pretty close. Pretty cool.

A doctor could say that anyone who hasn't memorized the name for every bone in our body is pathetic. After all, we live with them everyday, correct?

If an auto-mechanic said that everyone who doesnt know the exact makeup of an internal combustion engine is pathetic, would that make sense? After all, most of us drive them everyday.

When the sun goes down tonight, step outside and look south. Beaming through the twilight is one of the prettiest things you'll ever see--a tight three-way conjunction of Venus, Jupiter and the crescent Moon. The event is visible from all parts of the world, even from light-polluted cities. People in New York and Hong Kong will see it just as clearly as astronomers watching from remote mountaintops. Only cloudy weather or a midnight sun (sorry Antarctica!) can spoil the show.

The great conjunction offers something extra to Europeans. For more than an hour on Monday evening, the crescent Moon will actually eclipse Venus. Astronomers call such an event a "lunar occultation." Venus emerging from the dark edge of the Moon is a remarkably beautiful sight. Sky watchers across Europe will be able to see this happen.

So are there any good observatory type of pics????

I can't find any really good closeups. Only as good as I can see thru camera or binoculars.
