Cheetah SCSI HD & Tekram: please help!

Please help.

I've literally exhausted all means of trying to fix this persistant problem. Here's the low-down:

Athlon XP1600
Soyo SY-K7V Dragon +
Tekram DC-390U3W
Seagate Cheetah 18G 15000RPM


All of the above are brand-spanking new.

Problem: Put simply, I can't write to the drive. I've verified that the PC bios, adapter bios are correct. Jumpers and terminators verified. I have the Cheetah as master, intending to install a new OS on it. After trying W2K Server and W2K Pro (loading both from floppies - then trying from the CD itself), it simply won't write to the HD.

The HD is recognized during POST; its recognized in the adapter bios; it even formats my drive initially. But after format, once it starts writing to the drive, I get the following error:

"Setup cannot creat the folder: \WINNT\System32\drivers...Setup cannot continue unitl the folder is created."

Again, I've verified everything. And I've tried different OS - and different CDs of these two different OS.

The Adaptec and Seagate tech support are pathetic. And frankly, had they offered me anything than a curt reply, since I don't speak Taiwenglish, I don't think it would have helped.

Help me, fellow techie-brothers....you're my only hope!!!

Try downloading new drivers and load it when setup asks for additional drivers.
I have win2k on IDE drive and Tekram 390U2W for CDRW and scanner. 2k didn't see my drives till I reinstalled a driver.

Did you try Tekram, since they made the controller. Im not sure where Adaptec fits in here.

Yes, it was Tekram that I contacted - and not Adaptec.

Well since you have tried different disks, and assuming they were MS disks, and they all give similar error, then I would have to think the problem is with the CD drive itself. If its a SCSI CD Drive make sure it is properly terminated. If that doesnt work, and you have access to an IDE drive, try installing from an IDE CDROM, then pull it after the install is complete. If you are copying from an IDE CDROM, perhaps the controller drivers for the IDE need to be installed at the F6 prompt during the installation, as well as the Tekram drivers if not natively supported by WIn2K.

The only help I can offer is to tell you I have a similar rig working. I have a Dragon + and a Cheetah 15K. I am also using the Dragon+ to RAID some IDE disks, and I do remember it was tricky getting these to coexist, but forget what issues I had. I have an Adaptec 29160 card driving this, and if you have an adaptec card can you hit ctrl-A at bootup and run some diagnostics or change settings?

Oh, I think you need to play around with which PCI slot the SCSI Card is in. I think the bottom 2 are the only ones that work. Also, I think the D+ uses PCI slot 2 for RAID which also interferes with SCSI (cause in the boot order BIOS settings you need to say SCSI/RAID).
