I am seriously excited about this car. Wish I had a reason to buy a new car...hope the reviews are good.

It will be interesting how visually different it will be from the Holden. Some may say it looks boring, but I think it is perfectly understated. I like Audi's though, so I realize I tend toward boring styling.

Really hoping the new small block is in this thing from the new Corvette...as well as the tall 7 gear manual trans. Would be great to see Chevy offering a true sports sedan. Might be the last we see for a long while.

From the A pillar back looks fine. But the front clip has that bland organic Malibu styling. It's a complete mismatch. You know, I even see a little Catera/Lumina in that bulbuous bland front end.

And no manual transmission. GM still doesn't understand that people buying sport sedans want to drive them.

I'll second the meh.....

I've got a G8 GT now, and have been casually following the upcoming release of this SS.

The exterior styling of this is pretty bland....it could just as well say Lumina on the side and no one would blink an eye. And to only match the motor that was in the G8 GXP a few years ago, and take away the manual tranny, makes me think I'd just go out and buy a GXP were I in the market and have IMO a cooler looking, better car.

The interior on the SS does look nice in the pics. But I think if they had put the LT1, or somehow got 450 hp out of their LS3, and dropped it in the SS, they'd have piqued my interest a bit more. This does look more like a Taurus SHO competitor. Not real impressed. Too bad.

Your G8 definitely has the better exterior styling (nice car by the way - test drove one a few years back). I also have to completely agree on the super bland styling for the SS. Could they have made it any more boring looking?

If they have the coupe (Holden Coupe 60) I'd be more interested. 4 doors doesn't do it for me. The interior is very nice though.

Looks good to me, but until there's a manual it's basically in the same position as the sub GXP G8 to me - Totally irrelevant.

Disappointing.

I dont know if anyone saw this, but rumors are floating around on the net saying starting price at around $28k. Hopefully they throw a manual in one of these soon.

All the rumors I have seen is that it will start above 40 with very few options.

"Reuss has a particular interest in what happens with the SS because he was Managing Director at Holden while the next-generation Holden Commodore, the VE series – the car that is the SS in its original guise – was being developed. He said that from inception, it was decided that the VE series would be the car that would become Chevrolet's RWD halo sedan"

"Any time you mention the word Corvette, you're probably not talking about an inexpensive car. Add two more doors, three more seats, the tuning work needed to keep the word "Corvette" in the conversation and the phrase "halo car," and you're definitely not talking about an inexpensive vehicle. Therefore, Chevy is treating the SS like a halo car: Instead of making grand predictions about production volumes or churning out a performance car that sits on dealer lots, Reuss said, "We will fill the orders of the people who want them."

Translation: This car will not start at $28k. The rumor is wrong.

I will have to see it in person, then decide. If / when I move to North Carolina, it may be just what I could use. Or perhaps, one of the Camaros.

The price has made me lose all further interest in it. Think I'd rather go for an ats-v as that's shaping up to be pretty epic.

I need to find a better paying job....

44K is a bit much. I'd expect that price for a US version of the HSV Gen-F GTS with the LSA engine.

Well I wasn't that far off. Other than a sunroof and spare tire package there are no options on the car and sticker is $44,470 (includes a 1K destination charge).

considering there's no way this was going to slot under a loaded up camaro, and that's just a touch above what a loaded up automatic camaro runs (before offers), that's not a surprising price.

It's easy to see where this slots. It is competition for the Ford Taurus SHO and Dodge Charger SRT-8. You just need to look at the pricing for those to see where the pricing for this one comes from.

When a loaded up Focus or ILX runs 30k, a large V8 family sedan is going to be much higher.

Seriously for the same price you can get a 335i which should not only be a hair faster, but comes with complementary maintenance and doesn't come with ugly?

Swing and miss for GM. Ugly with no manual. This car is an abortion.

This just looks like an Impala. I scanned through the first page of this thread, thought I was kinda harsh, opened up above page...not harsh enough.

And the new Impala looks like a Taurus. With an extra helping of ugly.

edit: in case anyone hasn't seen the new Impala, btw, it's worth looking at for the lulz. It seriously looks like the post 'Five-Hundred' Taurus that someone took and tried to incorporate 'heritage' by adding a body line on the quarter panels that is vaguely reminiscent of a mid-60's Impala. It does not look good.
