Just got back from China. The train isn't smooth at all, which is weird since it's magnetic.

Amazing country, aside from the political situation. I think we tend to exaggerate their barbarousness.

It is precisely because of the lack of physical contact that makes it drift As to the barbarousness, it is just a matter of perspective. I think the more appropriate word is ruthless.

that comes from the fact that they are/were a communist society, and most communist governments tend to show more power than the communist beliefs seems to state is key.
but at least now they are a communist democratic society. Better than pure communism, and is/will be responsible for their insanely quick climb up the economic ladder.

Communist Democratic society? That is an interesting phrase I would say it is communist control with free market. As long as you stick to making money, the government will leave you alone. Venture int political view different than the parties, there will be hell to pay.

Agreed. It's a hybridized capitalist market with many communist style controls on religion, press, speech, public assembly, etc.

The funny thing is that in the leading capitalist nations of the US, Japan, and Europe when you get sick someone else pays for it (i.e. Socialist Government) but In Communist China when you are sick no one is expected pay for your treatment except for your self. So you tell me which one of those two ideals is the most communist and the most capitalist? If you ask me it seems that we are switching sides with the Chineese/Soviets.

:thumbsdown:USSR or USSA? (United Socialist States of America?)

What do you mean we expect someone else to pay for our healthcare?

We pay the insurance companies, which isn't cheap, then the doctors charge away above the cost the procedure would run in any other country so they can get paid by the insurance company. Thereby making it near impossible for an individual to obtain any large procedure on their own.

Is it the best system? Not by far, but it's not what you're calling it.

You're thinking of Canada...socialized health care, which is nice, but with flaws.

Look at the other end of the spectrum... Amtrak has the Acela, but it can't even go its design speed because they don't feel like upgrading the track.

It isn't just the track, it is the narrow right of ways and power systems along the route. Some of the infrastructure in the US northeast near the major cities is shockingly old. I'm talking Civil War to the early 1900s old kinda old.

I am referring to Medicare/Medicaid and the socialist medical movement.

Last year when I went to Shanghai for a wedding my dad (who works in China) picked us up at the airport. However, instead of having the company-provided driver take us into Shanghai, he thought it would be fun to race the driver to the destination of the Chinese version of the bullet train. The driver set off much earlier than us, as we had to wait awhile before the next train arrived. Like the video, the train eventually held steady at around 430/431 KPH, and in the end we easily beat the driver to our destination. The ride was a bit bumpy (enough so that any pictures I took of the speed were slightly blurred).
